POSITION DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a driven and articulate Director of Architectural Engineering to provide multi-disciplinary architectural engineering design leadership and management. This senior leadership position provides daily oversight and direction for approximately seventy (70) staff comprising our Structural Engineering, Mechanical/Plumbing Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, and Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering Departments; and encompasses implementing goals and objectives, developing and promoting the Practice's values and strategic plans, positioning the Practice for growth, and ensuring profitability. Promoting a doer-seller culture, this position is also focused growing diversified local/regional business development, relationships, and opportunities, as well as protecting established markets including Federal/DoD, Aviation, and Transportation in conjunction with other senior leaders. Reporting to the Pittsburgh Architecture Practice Executive, this position will collaborate throughout the Great Lakes Region and across the national Architecture Practice.

Priorities include emphasizing creative design solutions, technical execution, marketing/ proposal development, and performance excellence for Architecture projects worldwide. Other essential attributes include creative problem-solving, organizational skills, financial project management skills, production management capabilities, and a proven understanding of construction documents and constructability. This position provides leadership for multi-disciplinary, collaborative project design teams comprising architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and building systems engineers (SMEPFP).

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


  • Proficient experience and understanding of interdisciplinary relationships between technical resources, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Challenges the status quo, especially the notion, "This is how we've always done it."
  • Strategizes and leads dynamic, multi-disciplinary staff in the pursuit and execution of a wide array of project types and sizes, from moderate client-focused projects to large, complex commercial and government facilities.
  • Encourages uniformly high design and production standards and monitors projects to ensure that quality and production standards are met, or exceeded, for all design and contract documents.
  • Facilitates inter-office/inter-disciplinary collaboration, communication, and cooperation.
  • Constructively critiques individual and team efforts, towards continuous improvement.
  • Fosters a continuous learning culture by encouraging communication and the sharing of ideas and technical knowledge through mentoring, in-house presentations, case studies, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Actively participates with local professional and community-focused organizations to grow relationships and introduces/educates potential clients towards the Architecture Practice at Michael Baker International.
  • Collaborates with the Practice Executive and the Director of Architecture to support the Practice's market leaders in developing local and diversified market initiatives.
  • Specific experience with Design/Build alternate project delivery methods is preferred.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering; or Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis); or Mechanical Engineering; or Fire Protection Engineering; or Electrical Engineering, minimum is required. Master's Degree in Engineering or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Active licensure as a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) with NCEES certification is required.
  • LEED Accredited Professional BD+C, or equivalent, is highly preferred.
  • Strong leadership with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the design, documentation, and management of architecture/engineering projects and staff resources beyond initial licensure.
  • Thorough knowledge of the business of architecture/engineering with demonstrated experience leading, directing, and managing people.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the collaborative inter-relationships between architecture and engineering disciplines, clients, and constructors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to articulate ideas, both verbally and in writing; personable and outgoing in work relationships, both externally and internally; highly precise, detailed and self-organized; frank and candid during all business relationships.
  • Experience with business development is highly preferred, including research and developing responses to Requests for Proposals, as well oversight of written and graphic marketing materials.
  • Excellent computer skills with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, as well as Adobe and Bluebeam.
  • Understanding and experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) (Autodesk Revit Architecture/AutoCAD) software (current software versions) and application project implementation.
  • Understanding and experience with technical specifications software, including SpecsIntact, MasterSpec, etc., as well as Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and building codes.
  • Travel is required (15%-20%).

U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $101,000- $232,600. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
