Job Description:

Assists in the program development and implementation of licensed school age day camp programs for children aged 5-16, school days out, youth leisure interest and outdoor recreation trips, classes and programs. Flexible work shifts are required which include weekends, early mornings or late evenings, and holidays.

The hiring range for this position is$19.86-$24.33, depending on qualifications and experience.
Position will close to applicants at 4:30 P.M. M.S.T on Friday, October 9th.

  • Develop and execute all aspects of the licensed school age Adventure Bound Day Camp (ABCD) programs, including but not limited to, participant registrations, program fees, weekly activities, field trips, enrichment classes/programs and special events.

  • Responsible for planning, organization and execution of middle school camps and teen day trips.

  • Research, develop, and implement leisure interest and outdoor recreation classes/programs, trips, and/or events for tots, youth and teens.

  • Assists with interviewing, hiring and training employees. Assigns and directs the work of part-time staff including, but not limited to, scheduling, supervising and coaching; performance appraisals; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

  • Provide daily on-site supervision of classes/programs, leading by example and instructing safe and age-appropriate activities.

  • Provide daily effective communication and instruction to Guest Services staff regarding registration materials; communicates regularly and effectively with Facility staff to schedule reservations and classroom set-up needs.

  • Provide effective public relations by responding to all inquiries about program offerings in a timely manner; assists with the management of class/program registrations and waitlists, notifies participants of changes and cancellations, and processes refunds.

  • Assist in the monitoring of day camp budget, compiling camp supply inventories, purchasing program supplies, food and equipment.  

  • Assist with marketing of programs and events to ensure high enrollment levels.


Assist as a substitute teacher or classroom aide in licensed Small Fries preschool classes/programs, including Lunch Bunch, Early Learners Preschool Prep Series, and other preschool events. Assist with other special events and department functions as required.  Assist with recruitment of sponsors and volunteers, marketing, organization and supervision of events. Other duties as assigned.   


Provide effective daily supervision and support to all part-time/seasonal day camp staff and volunteers.

Highest-level supervision: non-exempt employee(s).

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.


Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Communicates effectively and diplomatically with participants of the program, parents, co-workers, and the general public.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers and participants.

  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills.

  • Ability to use independent and sound judgement to react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

  • Exercises appropriate conflict resolution skills with camp participants and staff. Ability to exhibit patience when dealing with stressful situations.

  •  Maintains working knowledge of General Rules for Child Care Facilities and Rules Regulating School Age Child Care Centers in Colorado.

  • Ability to successfully implement required practices and to communicate these to staff and enrolled participant families effectively.

  • Must possess strong understanding and practice of current technology and software.

  • Ability to operate a 12-14 passenger City van with provided training.

  • Ability to learn and utilize efficiently and effectively various software applications including, but not limited to, Recreation Management Software (Rec Trac), Microsoft Office Suite of products.

Education and/or experience:

Must be at least 21 years of age.  Must possess one of the following: 1) A Bachelor’s degree with a major such as recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; 2) An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in any area of study and a minimum of six months verifiable experience, since the age of eighteen, in the care and supervision of four or more children; OR 3) Three years of verifiable experience since the age of eighteen in the care and supervision of four or more children, with the ability to complete either six semester hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university or forty clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first nine months of employment. Experience planning for and leading groups, especially youth required. Experience leading or supervising others desired. Safety or outdoor leadership training certifications strongly desired.

Licensure and/or certifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. 

  • Must meet requirements for School-Age Child Care Center Program Director.  Early Childhood Teacher or Large Child Care Center Director qualifications preferred.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a First Aid, CPR, Standard Precautions and Medical Administration Certifications within 30 days of hire date through provided trainings.

  • Must complete additional online trainings as required by state licensing regulations.

  • Must be able to pass state and federal criminal and child abuse/neglect background screens prior to working with children.

Printer, computer, telephone, fax machine, safety equipment, athletic and recreational equipment, vans used in transporting children

Working conditions and physical requirements:

Performs the duties of this position in several different locations, in both inside and outside environments. May be exposed to dirt, sand, water and differing weather conditions. Bends, pushes, pulls, stoops, kneels, climbs, carries and lifts participants (up to 70 pounds). May be exposed to noisy and stressful situations. Instructs and demonstrates various recreational activities and is responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants by performing safe and proper activities and safe use of equipment at all times.
