Flint Hills Resources is currently seeking a Technical Development Extrusion Technician to enhance the staff already at work on new, innovative polymer based products. Reporting to the Pilot Plant Supervisor, this role will participate in decision making that will guide direction of new product and process development.  This role is located at our Pilot Plant in Peru, IL


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Operate a Lab scale extrusion line

  • Work closely in a team of technicians who operate a wide variety of other polymer processing operations

  • Proactively seek out and/or support both long and short term opportunities to innovate by utilizing MBM Decision Making Framework

  • Interface and build/maintain positive relationships with other Plant departments to prioritize and manage workload efficiently and effectively

  • Operate pilot plant reactors to generate material for support of technology and development experimentation 

  • Operate a range of downstream equipment to further process material

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3 years of laboratory or manufacturing environment experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Must to be able to read, understand, and follow process flow diagrams, operating procedures, run plan instruction, process control flow charts and quality control lab procedures

  • Ability to work with machinery in a pilot plant atmosphere

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Work safely with others in a team and promote a safe work environment

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field

  • Experience with extrusion operation

  • Experience with polymerization

  • Demonstrated capability to make decisions and influence or challenge others

  • High degree of self-motivation and curiosity

Working Conditions

  • Day shift M-F may require occasional overtime or weekend work

  • Working in areas that contain flammable or corrosive materials and/or with respirator is possible

  • A pre-employment physical / fitness test will be required as a condition of employment

  • Must be able to walk/stand/bend/stoop, raise/transport items up to 20 pounds, push/pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, and climb stairs.

  • Wearing personal protective equipment (FR clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, heeled boots and hearing protection) including the use of a respirator is required

  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms

  • Must be willing to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances in all weather conditions
