Reporting to the Global BFV Engineering Director, the Senior Engineering Manager is accountable for designing global BFV products aligned to the ISV BFV product strategy.  The qualified incumbent will work with Global Product Managers to influence product specification, including, scope of application, product certification, international design standards, target product cost, configuration etc.


Key Responsibilities

  • Champions and schedules concept design and development by initiating and developing concepts for new product

  • Drive product development and capability assessment activities, reviewing part design documentation to ensure alignment with process capability

  • Leads team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product

  • Performs verification process to ensure product meets design requirements, specifications, and regulations by performing model or simulation testing, as well as, a review or analysis of modeling results

  • Reviews detailed drawings produced for correctness, completeness, manufacturability and cost; ensures review of Bill of Materials (BOM)

  • Procures certification to attest product has passed performance and quality assurance tests, and meets qualification criteria stipulated in contracts, regulations, or specifications

  • Establish validation procedures to determine acceptance of processes into development builds, as well as, component production; assists in the development of Engineering prototypes and production pilot runs

  • Manages the Capital Asset Budget for the design of new products; fully responsible for maintenance of lowest manufacturing costs consistent with acceptable quality standards and established budgets in accordance with the product road map

  • Ensures all concepts are agreeable with standard manufacturing methods, including, development of part geometry, assembly design and drawing generation

  • Drive Engineering Process Rigor using systematic approach, data driven decisions, design reviews, project metrics (Lead time, FPY, Cost, etc.) & continuous improvement in alignment with Emerson stage-gate NPD process.

  • Assess the suitability of fabrication technology for a given part design; plan validation exercises to demonstrate process feasibility and capability

  • Leads or participates in DFMEA activity; utilizes GD&T, datum dimensioning and tolerance stack-ups and impact to manufacturing processes

  • Manages relationships with internal manufacturing facilities and external vendors to resolve issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors,

  • Participate in supplier readiness assessment to support build events and production ramp; review supplier tool design, process flow, equipment selection, DFM, and DOE proposals Identify shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance

  • Work with supplier engineering teams to map out process development exercises, secure resources, and commit to schedules in line with program goals

  • Work within regulatory and compliance standards and their effects in design consideration

Talent Management

  • In partnership with Global BFV Engineering Leaders, provides product domain development to Design team in the area of high performance BFV

  • Leads team in the development and maintenance of process documentation, including Process Flow diagrams, PFMEA's, Standard Work Instructions and Set-up sheets

Stakeholder management

  • Drive Engineering Process Rigor using systematic approach, data driven decisions, design reviews, project metrics (Lead time, FPY, Cost, etc.) & continuous improvement in alignment with Emerson stage-gate NPD process.

  • Work closely with supply chain and quality to ensure achievement of cost and lead time targets.

KPI: Reporting & Analytics

  • Optimize cost, risk and time-to-market with a first-pass gate review process

  • First pass gate reviews

  • Performance and skill improvement of team members

  • Standard (engineering) project reporting

  • First pass yield and lead time of engineering deliverables to Operations/PSQ/PMO

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Establishes accident prevention measures, and plans and schedules training programs for personnel concerning all phases of production operation and ensures compliance with established industry safety and design standards and guidelines.


  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Design

  • DFSS/PMP Certification and GB/BB certification, is an advantage

  • 18 years’ professional Engineering work experience

  • 6-10 years recent experience in (high performance) BFV design and review/release

  • Experience managing large product design and development projects in a matrixed organization

  • Experience managing a globally-distributed team of size 10 or more

  • Must be willing to travel globally, as needed

  • Strong technical skills involving mechanical design fundamentals, (High performance) BFV valve domain experience and engineering tools like CAD, CAE etc.

  • Exceptional engineering process skills involving ECM, NPD, DFSS, PLM etc.

  • Project management skills involving scoping, work break down, estimation, resourcing, scheduling, risk management etc.

  • Strong background in manufacturing technologies for valves, including casting technology, machining and assembly.

  • Hands-on experience in design and manufacturing validation and related quality and statistical practices and tools (process capabilities, MSA, etc.)
