As a Director, Commercial Underwriting of Webster Bank's Lender Finance team, you will be responsible for all aspects of underwriting and executing new lender finance transactions and assist with portfolio management activities, as needed. This position includes all aspects of the underwriting process such as performing structural analysis, asset level analysis, borrowing base review and construction, as needed, legal document review and preparing internal credit approval documents, as well as supporting portfolio management activities including completion of required portfolio reviews and processing of incremental credit extensions. Potential candidates at this level are typically building upon the skills required to manage structured finance transactions under minimal supervision. You will be a meaningful contributor and assume increasing levels of responsibility that encompasses origination, underwriting, execution, portfolio management, and communicating with key stakeholders. Position is hybrid and would be located in New York, NY.





Responsibilities:





  • Spearheading the due diligence process for lender finance transactions, inclusive of asset level due diligence and structural review




  • Preparing pre-screen memos and credit approval documents for presentation to credit committee




  • Reviewing legal documentation including credit agreements & amendments




  • Preparing and/or reviewing borrowing base models




  • Organizing and managing the closing process on new transactions




  • Supporting ongoing portfolio management activities.




Throughout this process, the Director, Commercial Underwriting will interact with multiple stakeholders including senior business development officers, deal underwriters, senior credit officers, capital markets professionals, partner banking institutions, private debt originators, as well as legal counsel and operations personnel.





Required Qualifications:





* Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent work experience.




* 5-8 years' experience at a commercial or investment bank with strong commercial credit experience.




* Superior written and verbal communication skills.




* Strong analytical skills and proficiency with spreadsheet modeling.




* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with little to no supervision.





Desired Qualifications:





* Graduate of a formalized credit training program is preferred.





Business Unit Overview





Webster Lender Finance provides senior secured commercial loans to non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) operating in the Private Credit market. Such NBFI's then use our loans to fund middle market leveraged cash flow loans, short-term commercial real estate loans, and ABL loans to third-party borrowers. Our loans are structured using securitization architecture to mitigate risk to Webster. We are headquartered in New York, NY.




The estimated salary range for this position is $160,000 USD to $175,000 USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
