What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:

The City of Groveland is one of the most rapidly growing cities in Florida, known as 'The City of Natural Charm and Unlimited Possibilities. The Lead Field Service Technician will be responsible for effectively leading the Field Service Technician Team and making sound decisions in day-to-day operations or emergency situations if the Maintenance Chief or Operations Compliance Specialist is not available.

Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:


  • Supervises and participates in the work of utilities crews engaged in the repair, rework, and maintenance of the water, sewer, vacuum and reuse infrastructure.

  • Leads crew in job performance, equipment usage and safety practices.

  • Implements and enforces Woodard & Curran personnel policies, departmental policies, and procedures.

  • Oversee the day-to-day PM/CM of the distribution/ collection system and maintenance, guide the FST team and teach/train the new FST. Input new assets into GIS and organize all data for LS condition assessments/generators.

  • Oversee the day-to-day PM/CM of the distribution system, city hall work orders, customer service issues, backflow program, and assist with the field inspections with construction (pressure test, taps, installs). Manage programs that include flushing, valve maintenance, and hydrant maintenance.

  • Preventative & Corrective Maintenance on lift stations and their assets (generators/auxiliary pumps) including inspections.

  • Servicing the Vacuum station (a collection system that relies on vacuum suction to transport sewage from homes within the neighborhood) is different from the typical gravity/force main sewer system.

  • Fix & repair leaks to water, reclaim, and force mains as they arise.

  • Installs and changes out water and reuse meters.

  • Perform meter reads.

  • Work with Utility billing and customer service relations.

  • City hall generates work orders, whether this is turn on or turn off's for accounts.

  • Flushes hydrants, maintenance, exercises valves, and performs pressure tests of fire hydrants.

  • Service backflows (if the license is obtained).

  • Work with GIS for locates.

  • Operates various heavy and light equipment including backhoes, crane truck, vac trucks, etc.

What you will need to Succeed!


  • Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school, including or supplemented by courses in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance.

  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps, compressors, and plumbing fixtures preferred.

  • Must be able to communicate and effectively lead a team.

  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to repair pumping equipment and control switches.

  • Water Distribution License issued by the state of Florida.

  • Wastewater Collection Certification is preferred.

  • Five (5) years of experience as a Utilities Field Technician is preferred.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical and drug screen before employment.
