Job Summary

The Data Governance organization is focused on ensuring data is managed properly, according to established policies and procedures, while delivering high quality data. The driver of this team is to ensure the organization gets value out of data, focuses on how decisions are made about data, and understands how the enterprise interacts with data. The Director leads the enterprise efforts in data quality and is responsible for alignment to the enterprise data governance policy and building out the Data Quality function within Bread Financial. This includes building out the strategy for Data Quality and enabling it as a capability with business, information technology and chief digital and artificial intelligence office organizations.

The Director is forward-thinking and partners with key resources to ensure the organization is proactive in response to internal/external changes. This leader is accountable for maturity of the Data Quality capability, ensuring that it is adopted within the business as per our federated operating model, and is effectively managing Data Quality (DQ) risks within our key processes.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:
Enterprise Data Quality Strategy - Define the vision, scope, strategy, and engagement model for data quality function. Establish and govern an enterprise data quality roadmap including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities. Align organization to an enterprise-wide data quality standard, with a focus on reduction of risk within our business processes because of quality issues. Work with the Data Owners, Data Stewards, Business Process Owners, Model Owners, and Data Custodians to create DQ plans and institute best practices for their respective domains.

Build Federated Data Quality Operating Model - Define roles and responsibilities related to data quality and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company's principal information assets. Be a thought leader while serving as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology. Ensure that a federated data quality model is effectively established where the Data Owners are accountable for the data within their domains. The model incorporates the role of Data Custodian for resolving quality issues within their applications and platforms. Identification of what needs to be measured is included while establishing authentic sources of data, data quality controls implementation, monitoring and reporting, reviews of data quality scorecards and development of remediation plans. Define the role of Data Governance in managing and determining the resolution of Data Quality Issues. Establish the development and implementation of data quality standards, and quality metrics, provide progress reports to risk management on the impact of quality issues on core business.

Data Quality Frameworks and Competencies - Build the data quality framework within Bread Financial based on industry best practices and leverage past experiences from other financial services firms, industry forums and industry capability models such as Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM) and Data Management Association (DAMA). Utilize knowledge of advanced data quality management, in particular statistical techniques, and AI/ML based solutions to detect anomalies for proactive DQ monitoring.

Metadata Management Framework and Competencies - Build the metadata management strategy and roadmap for Bread Financial. This includes compliance with the Metadata standard, working with the Data Owners on business and technical metadata and implementing data classification within the company. Work on business adoption of metadata management, including the use of the Enterprise Glossary to make business decisions and ensuring correct definitions and usage of data.

Leadership - Lead, coach, motivate, challenge, and provide managerial guidance to the team. Provide continuous feedback and complete formal performance evaluations as directed by the organization. Value associate recognition and celebrate the accomplishments of individual team members as well as the overall team. Lead and delegate work with both direct reports and other associates to accomplish company initiatives. Influence within the team and across the organization by demonstrating organizational agility and thought leadership.

Strategic Communication - Demonstrate broad industry knowledge about Data Quality and anticipate future consequences and trends accurately. Effectively communicate to all levels of the organization credible imagery and visions of possibilities and likelihoods. Display confidence when interacting with peers in difficult areas and presenting to executives.

Reports To: Vice President, Data Management, Protection and Governance

Direct Reports: 4-7

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:


  • Normal office environment with hybrid work from home flexibility. As a senior leader, must work at a Bread Financial office at least 6 days per month.

  • Ability to travel 6 days a month if not located near a Bread Financial office.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Governance, Economics, Data and Analytics, or related field of study.

  • 7+ years of experience leading teams of people in a professional setting.

  • 12+ years of experience working in Data Quality Management in a financial services firm.

  • 5+ years of experience implementing data quality business cases with experience defining business cases for data quality and delivering business benefits.

  • 5+ years of experience with enterprise class data quality and metadata management solutions such as Collibra, Alation, IBM or Informatica including implementation of Data Quality.

  • Experience tying data quality to operational risks within organizations with experience defining data risks and tying them to data quality initiatives, data issues and Data Quality monitoring.

  • Must work from a Bread Financial office at least 6 days a month. Travel is required because of this, if needed.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree or PHD in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Governance, Economics, Data and Analytics, or related field of study.

  • 15+ years of experience leading data governance and data quality.

  • Experience implementing advanced data quality management techniques and AI/ML based solutions for Data Quality.

  • Experience with functionally leading distributed onshore and offshore teams.

  • Experience with Data Privacy regulations and Information Security as it relates to data classification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Typical Starting Range:
$134,400.00 - $278,200.00

Full Salary Range for position:
California: $154,500.00 - $347,700.00

Colorado: $134,400.00 - $292,100.00

New York: $147,800.00 - $347,700.00

Washington: $141,100.00 - $319,900.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial's 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time ("PSST") upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.

Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
