This is a working position performing the duties as directed by the Superintendent II. This position will maintain and operate the heaviest and most complex equipment in a safe and efficient manner. In the absence of the Superintendent II, the person in this position will direct, assign, schedule, and supervise the work of skilled workers in the operation of equipment and labor, and estimates of material and equipment needed for highway projects. Administers a Vegetation Management Program consistent with ODOT and District Six program requirements; follows ODOT's Safety Manual and other District Policies on safety. Communicates with the public, local governments, and personnel in explaining ODOT's policies and procedures.
Education and Experience requirements consist of five years of experience in operating transportation equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the materials, equipment and techniques used in highway construction and maintenance of the placement of traffic control devices; of personnel regulations; of equipment and materials; of engineering plans and specifications for highways, bridges and traffic control devices; and of supervisory principles. Ability is required to communicate effectively; to anticipate maintenance problems; to conduct maintenance inspections; to train supervisors and employees in new procedures; and to plan workloads.
