As a member of the Small Business Underwriting Operational Excellence team, the AVP – Process Excellence Lead will partner with leaders and teams across Small Business UW, CI UW Centers, and FL UW Centers to identify and execute upon business process and capabilities improvement opportunities and deliver value to customers and positive financial impact to the company. The AVP - Process Excellence Lead will be a key leader and trusted partner who drives transformational change through the application of innovative and world-class business architecture techniques, and will report directly to Operational Excellence Lead, Small Business Underwriting.

Key Duties & Responsibilities


  • Lead process engineering and optimization efforts, evolving to a fully developed process owner model in an efficient and cost-conscious environment. Accountable for continuous process improvements and delivery of efficiency commitments.  

  • Define and apply organizational and business architecture backed by industry best practices leveraging the “right work to the right desk” mindset.

  • Lead dissemination and application of outside-in perspectives, targeting balance between internal biases and expectations from customers and agents, including promoting factual representation of industry best practices.

  • Build ownership of UW business capabilities that flow directly from existing or new business processes, including business case development (to support investment rationale), along with capabilities strategy/roadmap, definition, prioritization, and high-level requirements for downstream consumption. 

  • Build clear linkages between business processes and capabilities to ensure that the capabilities meet the business needs and help drive the processes up in the maturity curve.

  • Provide oversight and execution support for translation of business capabilities into solutions, including representing UW business in key forums, providing clarifications to cross-functional groups, and certifying that the solution concepts meet business needs.

  • Drive management information reporting for ongoing process improvement and related business capabilities development initiatives.

  • Conduct post-execution evaluation and support tracking KPI’s/controls for an appropriate time period to demonstrate sustainable effectiveness and efficiency 

  • Lead development and implementation of end-to-end process improvement methodologies (playbooks, toolkits, frameworks, etc.) and reusable process libraries 

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or related disciplines. A Master’s degree is a plus.

  • 8+ years in business capability modeling and business process engineering/analysis roles in insurance or financial services. Management consulting experience in similar roles is a plus.

  • Demonstrated track record in leading business process design and transformation projects along with producing tangible outcomes using proven tools & techniques.

  • Solid knowledge and demonstrated use of LEAN Six Sigma, statistical analysis, industry-standard tools (SIPOC, DMAIC, VOC, Process Mapping, Process Requirements), and process management principles.

  • Ability to interact with diverse technical and non-technical groups in a matrix organization, spanning all organizational levels including collaboration across business and IT disciplines to achieve results.

  • Excellent data fluency.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
