Job Description:

The Weight Lead is responsible for managing overall program weight status for one or more vehicle programs starting from early concept approval and continuing through production launch. This individual will provide leadership and guidance to various groups throughout the development process ensuring that weight related program functional objectives are met. A primary deliverable for this role includes the creation of competitive based weight targets that balance program goals related to fuel economy, performance, GHG emissions and capability. The Weight Lead will work in a team with other leads who each have a subset of programs and with a group of production weight engineers who publish spring tables and weight reports for all North American programs.

Daily activities for the Weight Lead include but are not limited to the following:


  • Work closely with the Program Lead & VDE team to provide data needed to run fuel economy simulations

  • Conduct weight studies for the Advanced Architecture Team

  • Perform weight & capability competitive benchmarking

  • Lead BICEEP teams to develop weight management strategies to meet program functional objectives

  • Establish high level top down and detailed bottoms up weight targets

  • Create and distribute weight scorecards monthly

  • Interface with Chief Engineer, MR, VLE and program team to provide regular weight status updates

  • Travel to vehicle assembly plants and supplier locations to conduct part and vehicle weight audits

  • Conduct monthly FE Label compliance audits, monitor actual take rates for EPA options, tire and aero enablers

  • Support weight related Global Process alignment with other regions

  • Coach, mentor and train junior weight team members
