POSITION SUMMARY: # The Team Leader, Sonography reports to the Manager of Cardiology Services and under the direction of a Cardiologist, performs exams at technical level that does not require direct supervision over technical detail.# Conducts a variety of Echo exams including Doppler, Transesophagel Echo, Bubble and Contrast exams.# Uses independent judgment, ingenuity and acquired knowledge to obtain quality diagnostic images. The work involves supervising technical echocardiography staff including work assignments and schedules, evaluates employee performance and participates in the performance of diagnostic echocardiography procedures. Work is performed under the general direction of the Department Manager. Does related work as required. The Team Leader, Solography serves at the Technical Director for IAC Accreditation. # # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Minimum of an Associates Degree from an accredited school of diagnostic medical imaging. Must obtain Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) of Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification within one year of hiring and maintain registration by obtaining 30 Continuous Medical Education Credits (CMES) every 24 months. Must become certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire and maintain clinical competency during employment. # EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years relevant experience preferred. Experience in working with and caring for all age groups of patients Bilingual in English/Spanish is desirable, but not required # # # COMPETENCIES: Complete knowledge of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique, and universal precaution as it relates to Echocardiography practice is necessary. Excellent interpersonal verbal and written and communications skills with patients from all age groups as well as Nursing Stations, Physicians, and co-workers Must have access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites as travel is required to perform the essential functions of the position. Participates in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objects. Maintains appropriate staffing levels with flexing staff for low volume times. #Directs the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment. #Ensures compliance with established laboratory standards of practice. #Obtains diagnostic information for interpretation by a credentialed physician. #Maintains competency, proficiency and continual professional development by attending workshops, seminars, conferences and reading appropriate related books, journals, etc. Thorough knowledge of technical practices, procedures and techniques of echocardiography. Thorough knowledge of accreditation standards as they relate to echocardiography. Ability to supervise, plan the work of and evaluate lower-level staff. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a diverse constituency; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Directs all technical aspects of the program. Responsible for training and supervising on-site sonographers to ensure adherence to protocol and the acquisition of the highest quality images. Provides training/internships for student sonographers from area programs. Will be of highly skilled at the acquisition and quantitation of highly specialized studies utilizing 2-D, 3-D echo and Doppler studies. Responsible for the organization of patient scheduling and billing and oversees the operation and maintenance of the core lab equipment.
