 If you are a Business Development Manager with global experience in renewable energy - and you are looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson's Power & Water Solutions (PWS) business has an exciting opportunity for you!   Ideally, you will be based in our Pittsburgh, PA location.  As the Global Business Development Manager - Renewable Energy you will provide marketing leadership and business development in the area of renewable energy with primary focus being towards solar PV (photovoltaic) and battery storage.  The BDM will drive orders in this market by determining and exploiting the opportunities for Emerson products to fit solar and battery applications, and develop marketing collateral and initiatives to promote the sale of Emerson systems and services.  This position will provide the global sales force with the support of an expert in the area of renewable energy markets and applications.  Whether through training of the sales force or directly interfacing with the customer, the BDM will provide the necessary confidence to customers in Emerson's ability to successfully source complete renewable energy solutions.
 
AS A RENEWABLE ENERGY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, YOU WILL: 


  • Understand renewable facility operations, the control applications and the government/industry drivers within the market.
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert for the market and Emerson's solutions for renewable energy applications.
  • Stay current on industry trends and developments.
  • Identify target applications, competitors, and/or customers in which Emerson controls are particularly suited to fill niches.
  • Provide Emerson's global sales force with adequate marketing collateral and training for competent Level 1 presentations and discussions.
  • Prepare and provide Level 2 sales support directly at the customer site for qualified opportunities with the sales force.
  • Work with PWS MARCOM to develop product literature, presentations, and other media to support renewable energy promotions.
  • Identify, prepare for, and attend trade events that promote Emerson renewable energy solutions.
  • Develop solution messaging for renewable energy solutions to address pains and desires of NA power users.
  • Gather 'voice of the customer' feedback and market information to drive future product enhancements.
  • Identify potential third-party business partners that fill gaps in our solution portfolio.
  • Coordinate with and drive the sales force as needed to promote Emerson's renewable energy solutions.
  • Address international requests for marketing collateral and technical support.
  • Review proposals to ensure accuracy and price competitiveness.

Additional information: 

  • This role will require the individual to provide SME advice to customers that may be considering purchasing controls or operations management software for a new or existing facility.  
  • The BDM will understand the application and assess Emerson's value proposition to provide the end user with a confident solution.  
  • The individual will need to assess the market, the competitors, and the capabilities of Emerson to position the product(s) such that they will address niches and opportunities within the power utility customer base.  
  • The individual will occasionally have to work with Project Engineering and Product Development to develop custom solutions for opportunistic niches.
  • The individual will have solid professional presentation skills and the ability to confidently discuss the application of Emerson's solutions for solar and battery applications.  
  • The individual will convey understanding of customer pains and desires and relate them to solutions using Ovation and Emerson's application experience.
  • Ultimately, the individual must be able to persuade the customer that Emerson offers a superior value and return on investment, particularly over competitive products.  This may at times be accomplished by providing instructional sessions with customers as a Subject Matter Expert and provide basic/advanced lectures on renewable energy applications and solutions to common issues.
  • The role will sometimes require the individual to convince internal Emerson departments of the value of developing specific applications and product enhancements by using market data, feedback, and cost analysis.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Bachelor of Science degree required; Engineering degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in power generation marketing, sales, projects or operations including at least 5 years working in renewable energy industry for an end user or developer
  • Demonstrated experience promoting and presenting products and solutions directly to end users.
  • Requires a deep understanding of how a solar and battery facilities operate and equipment and technologies utilized
  • Requires an understanding of controls and how they are applied
  • The BDM should be familiar with Ovation's capabilities and Emerson's prior experience in those areas
  • Ability to travel up to 50% internationally, post-COVID restrictions
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States - sponsorship will not be provided for this position

  • Experience with Solar PV (Photovoltaic) or battery applications is strongly preferred.
