Community Engagement Coordinator



The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for identifying and supporting the coordination of community outreach for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), ensuring compliance, integrity, and growth of community partnerships and stakeholder engagement that are mutually beneficial throughout the CTSI’s research initiatives. The Community Engagement Coordinator will support the development of a network of organizations to promote community health and research endeavors. The research and programmatic interventions are community-based with a significant impact on public health. The incumbent will plan, develop, and execute engagement strategies in collaboration with Senior Leadership and the program’s multidisciplinary core directors. Engagement strategies will include participating with partner organizations at community events, educating the community about research, and recruiting participants into the Pitt+Me Research Registry. The incumbent will utilize established methods to track engagement activities to assess the impact of specific methods and suggest improvements to meet community collaborations and dissemination of research and health and wellness opportunities. The incumbent will provide educational sessions for staff on how to engage the community and promote understanding in support of the grant aims. The incumbent will organize a calendar of community events to optimize recruitment activities. The individual will work with their team to schedule university-based and community-based events. These events are anticipated to occur at times on evenings and weekends. The individual will be expected to maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate these events. The incumbent must have excellent communication skills and an engaging personality to positively promote the Community PARTners Core. High-level organization skills are required to ensure well-planned and professional presence at community events. Exceptional writing skills are needed to disseminate research information to community partners and to encourage community participation in the Pitt+Me Research Registry. Incumbent must also understand the importance of adherence to professional decorum while communicating health, wellness, and research education while interacting across a diverse group of university faculty, staff, and community stakeholders. TB test and PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment. Bilingual applicants encouraged but not required.


Job Summary

Assists with overall execution of comprehensive community engagement plans. Engages with the community at events and as a liaison for the University. Assists in developing a community engagement calendar, logistics of community events, and preparing grant proposals. Trains and mentors' staff and others regarding the community program and activities.


Essential Functions

Ability to operate a PC and communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with a broad variety of people. Telephone skills, computer and keyboard skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong organizational skills. Ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.


Physical Effort

Position is generally sedentary, but there may be times when position requires mobility to attend meetings both in person and virtually. Ability to move throughout campus to attend face to face meetings and or participate in virtual meetings or lift reports weighing approximately 15lbs.
