The internship position is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule of 40 hours a week throughout a 10-14-week assignment starting in May of 2021.

As a Software Developer Intern, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Working as a member of a collaborative agile full stack software development team, with the guidance of a mentor, build and deploy services and applications that are used in processing healthcare claims across the world

  • Develop code according to business and technical requirements; create test data, perform unit/integration tests; address defects; deploy updates

  • Participate in technical brainstorming sessions to formulate designs that minimize maintenance, maximize code reuse and minimize testing time

  • Embrace agile continuous improvement of the development process

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for interns who must have the following qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited institution

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Completed a minimum of junior year (6 semesters) by the start of the assignment

  • Skills include:

  • Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Linux, Docker, Git, Amazon Web Services, Angular, HTML, CSS

  • Strong interpersonal skills and judgment in order to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of people, both individually and in groups is required

  • Ability to work effectively without close supervision

Location: Internships will be based remotely.

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B, Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT))
