We are looking for a Territory Sales Manager who will join our Hawthorne team in Vancouver, Washington Hawthorne Gardening Co office.

As a Territory Manager your job will be to build relationships with our largest retail accounts and mid to large commercial growers. You will be expected to visit customers on a regular basis to present/sell them new and existing products, educate them on our tools and resources, provide them with marketing material and make doing business with Hawthorne as seamless as possible.

In this role you will:

  • Understand your market. Know what your competitors are doing and what stores are the strong ones in each area.
  • Visit stores on a weekly to monthly basis. 30% of time is in the office with 70% on the road.
  • Educate accounts on new and existing products and review current promotions.
  • Sell HGC Signature and Exclusive brands in every store.
  • Identify upsell / cross-sell opportunities with each account; increase account penetration
  • Work with vendors to become familiar with their products and get samples if needed.
  • Work with your Sales Director, Cust Service and other HGC areas to improve sales processes
  • During store visits, evaluate and dissect total revenue and sq. footage and determine and implement strategies for promotional and marketing needs that strategically brands and markets Hawthorne products in the Northwestern US territory
  • Evaluate and recommend implementation of, and/or changes to, customers' product displays to ensure optimal product placement; markets and promotes Hawthorne by providing samples, demo systems, displays, marketing material, and branding materials
  • Professionally represent Hawthorne at trade shows, retailer customer appreciation days, new store openings, and music festivals
  • Observe industry indicators, communicate trends, and recommend new product ideas and marketing strategies to management through weekly reports, direct phone calls, and scheduled sales meetings
  • Evaluate customers' Hawthorne product knowledge, determines need for and creates training action plans, and provides specialized training lessons to customers' employees on product usage, dosage rates, potential profit margins, and product benefits in relation to competitors.
  • Develop training programs on product usage, dosage rates, potential profit margins, and product benefits in relation to competitors.
  • Communicate directly with retailers regarding the company and associated product lines, industry trends, product and price changes, registration status, pending new orders, and promotions.
  • Provide customer service to retailers and end-users; troubleshoots and resolves product issues, responds to general and technical product questions.
  • Compose product information to market company and product lines on social networks, blogs, and forums
  • Recommend and implements marketing and product change requests; evaluates, strategies, and recommends product changes.

The perfect person will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or relative field
  • 5+ years of industry sales experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in B2B sales or 3+ years of hydroponic industry sales
  • Deep understanding of the hydroponics retail industry.
  • Strong sales background
  • Knowledge of hydroponic gardening
  • Savviness with various social media marketing avenues
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Solid knowledge of different database systems (i.e. Goldmine, MAS CRM, Microsoft Access, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the time
