Pediatric Neurosurgery at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is in search of a Research Scientist. The Research Scientist Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation, including planning, organizing, conducting experiments, assessing protocol feasibility, processing and analyzing data, and conference presentations. Supervises a variety of laboratory experiments such as histology, cell culture and transfection, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis, and may perform microsurgical procedures. Ensures conformity to specifications. Identifies and prepares specimens. Supervises supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items. Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions. Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and logbooks. Organizes and documents results. Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests sterility of laboratory equipment. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations, and demonstrates excellent language skills in scientific communications. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists. Prepares manuscripts, research proposals, articles, grant applications, work for publications, and presentations based on research results. Trains undergraduates and/or research technicians. Recommends, drafts, and manages laboratory policies and procedures. Facilitates work and project development in collaboration with other industry and academic specialists.
Minimum education to be considered for this position is a PhD.
