This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.

The data scientist is a member of the Data and Analytics Information Technology team, having a critical role in supporting the BHE process improvement center of excellence process transformation and process mining initiatives. The data scientist assists global process owners and specialists in translating process mining use cases into technical and data requirements, and participates in other Data and Analytics center of excellence initiatives. This position works with information technology teams across the company to extract, transform, validate and load data into process mining and other data and analytics software systems including Hadoop (Cloudera), Oracle Analytics Server, and Microsoft Power BI. This individual contributes to model development, model testing, data validation and data integrity efforts in the course of daily work.


Responsibilities


Serves as a primary contributor to process improvement center of excellence and BHE data and analytics initiatives and projects in an analytics model and software development role by defining and clarifying technical project scope, developing technical approach and architecture and performing root cause analysis in support of addressing and correcting data-related issues. Serves as a primary contributor for process mining infrastructure guidance and design principles; accountable for BHE process mining infrastructure configuration. Works closely with process analysts to translate business requirements and use cases into technical and data requirements. Extracts, transforms and loads all source system data needed for each process implemented within the process mining software. Builds process mining data models and monitors and optimizes the performance of all data queries to ensure ideal response times. Communicates priorities, requirements and operational impacts and aligns with manager expectations with affiliate stakeholders in projects and department activities. Maintains daily administration of local data lake and process mining production environments, including scheduling processes, monitoring resources, and performing administrative functions. Documents technical and data requirements gathering and extract, transform, load (ETL) working with IT teams to identify source system tables and fields that need to be brought into the process mining and other software; collaborates with relevant business experts to validate data and system deliverables. Develops data science model, code, ETL and software engineering deliverables in an Agile development activity cycle and performs system analysis, develops use cases, and identifies necessary model/system changes within code based upon specific requirements for the business. Collaborates with vendor(s) on technology and software considerations, advises on adoption and timing of software patches and upgrades, identifies and communicates risks associated with operations with an emphasis on appropriate internal control considerations, supports investigation and remediation of operational issues.


Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, software engineering or a related technical field. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) Masters in data science or related technical field preferred. Eighteen months of work and/or intern experience primarily in a data science, modeling and administration role. Two years of related work experience, primarily in a data science, modeling and administration role is required for the data scientist 2 level. Five years of related work experience, primarily in a data science, modeling and administration role is required for the senior data scientist level. Experience with data analytics and/or process mining technologies is a plus. Experience with SQL and NOSQL, data extract, transform and load (ETL) processes. Demonstrated basic knowledge and experience working with any one of the following is required: Python, R, VenSim, Extend, Arena, Celonis, SSAS, SPSS, MATLAB, SAS/STAT or other advanced operations modeling software related to data science, business intelligence and analytics. Capabilities in more than one area are a plus. Preferred skills in Cloudera, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Pig, Cloudera, Sqoop, Azure DevOps. Experience participating in transformation projects and managing a variety of organizational stakeholders and goals. Strong project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects concurrently. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to appropriately monitor and manage solutions and data throughout BHE. Demonstrated ability to understand and utilize computer systems and applications. Strong personal computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, M365, One Drive, etc.) Experience in process improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, or other formalized improvement methodologies) is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders at various levels throughout the organization. Strong leadership skills, effective interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
