Position Summary: The Per Diem Bilingual (English/Spanish) Research Assistant (RA) will work on a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) funded project. The study is an evaluation of the Philadelphia Alliance for Child Trauma Services (PACTS III) program in Philadelphia, PA.

Duties and Responsibilities: Structured quantitative interviews will be conducted with youth aged 3-21 years who are in therapy for trauma experiences and their parents/guardians to evaluate the impact of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). Responsibilities include working with Spanish speaking children, youth and families for recruitment, screening, consent, enrollment, scheduling, and follow-up; in-person and virtual data collection; preparation and translation of Spanish language materials (e.g., study flyer, scripts for data collection, community presentations); assistance with qualitative and quantitative data preparation and analyses; assistance with manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and scientific abstracts for conferences; and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Formal Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, psychology, or related field or two years of relevant experience (in addition to the experience listed below) in lieu of degree.

Work Experience
  • Prior work with Spanish-speaking families.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
  • Experience with Spanish interpretation and document translation.
  • Must maintain absolute privacy and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive data (e.g., substance use, trauma history).
  • Ability to respond calmly to urgent and /or emergency situations.

Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area).
  • Familiarity with administering structured quantitative interviews.

Other
  • RAs who work from a location off of campus must have a laptop, mobile device, WiFi access, and private location (e.g., no roommates or others present) for virtual data collection which will be done by Zoom or phone.
  • Research office space is available on campus for those who do not have Wifi or a private work location
  • RAs are responsible for transportation to/from the Philadelphia behavioral health treatment programs for in-person study activities.
  • Gas mileage reimbursement or other transportation expenses will be covered by the grant.
  • Available workdays are Monday through Saturday, with days/times subject to the study participants’ availability and RA’s schedule.
Preferred Qualifications: Work Experience
  • Work as a research assistant on a prior community-engaged research project.
  • Engagement with Spanish-speaking Philadelphia youth aged 3 to 21 and their families
  • Experience co-authoring manuscripts for publication and scientific abstracts.

  • Detail-oriented.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with varied deadlines and frequent interruptions
  • Quick learning skills to work in a fast-paced environment.

Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for dealing with children and youth with emotional and/or behavioral health concerns.
  • Knowledge of procedures for participant screening and consent.
  • Proficiency in research software programs (e.g., REDCap, SPSS).


Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: Please note that this is a per diem position subject to data collection needs and participant availability, so some weeks may not have any hours or compensation.
