Position Summary: The Villanova University M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing is pleased to invite applications for the position of Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice- Nurse Anesthesia (DNP-NA) Program. This is a full-time 12-month continuing non-tenure track faculty position.

Under the leadership of the Associate Dean for the Graduate Program, the Director serves as the primary administrator for the DNP-NA Program and provides strategic, visionary, and dynamic leadership to faculty, staff, and students in the nurse anesthesia program in the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing. The Director works collaboratively with the Dean, Vice Dean, administrative team, and faculty, staff, and students, to define, implement, and continuously evaluate the nurse anesthesia program curriculum and budget. They are responsible for meeting and maintaining accreditation and regulatory standards for the Nurse Anesthesia Program and provides leadership and strategic vision for the DNP NA program.

Duties and Responsibilities: Academic Oversight
  • Provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the DNP-NA curriculum ensuring the FCN program remains at the forefront of cutting-edge DNP-NA education. Facilitates implementation of all accreditation mandates required by the Council on Accreditation (COA).
  • Conducts and addresses course and student evaluations through class observations, counsels and advises students as it relates to performance in both clinical and didactic courses.
  • Completes program evaluation annually through the Program evaluation plan (PEP).
  • Utilizes evaluation data for the purpose of ongoing program improvement.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs to create teaching assignments for the DNP-NA program each semester.
  • Develops, plans, implements, and supervises students’ clinical and didactic learning experiences and evaluates and reviews summative evaluations with students each semester.
  • Obtains and maintains clinical site rotations for the DNP-NA program.
  • Plans and participates in recruitment and orientation of new faculty, lecturers and students.
  • Collaborates with the Administrative team, and the College’s Office of Recruitment and Enrollment Management to promote and advance the recruitment, admission and retention of a diverse student body.
  • Develops and implements annual Faculty Development Workshops, participates as a lecturer or obtaining lecturers in conjunction with the
  • Philadelphia Area Nurse Anesthesia Program Advisory Group.
  • Nurtures an environment of collegiality and transparency and supports faculty academic concerns.
  • Teaches in academic programs.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Serves and represents the College on various internal and external boards and committees that function within the program and its affiliates.
  • Develops, reviews, and oversees implementation of academic program policies and procedures in collaboration with the Dean, faculty, and other constituents. Creates and maintains nurse anesthesia student handbook documentation.
  • Creates all necessary student clinical and didactic records, statistical reports and files, and completes annual report to Council on Accreditation.
  • Supervises administrative staff, Associate Program Director, and faculty in the DNP-NA program including lecturers and didactic faculty.
  • Visits clinical sites on an annual basis.
  • Creates and submits an Annual Report to the Dean and maintains student and faculty data.
  • Supports faculty retention and serves on search committees as needed.
  • Responsible for all reports, activities, and operations to satisfy Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and Pennsylvania Board of Nursing (PaBON) requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • CRNA with an earned doctoral degree from an institution of higher education that was accredited by an agency officially recognized by the US Secretary of Education to accredit institutions at the time the degree was conferred.
  • Must maintain RN license and recertification by the NBCRNA.
  • Must have formal instruction in curriculum, evaluation and instruction (per COA DNP std B17.)
  • Minimum of three years’ academic administration experience or other significant academic/educational nursing leadership experience.
  • Must demonstrate leadership capabilities, decision-making authority and expertise sufficient to conduct the curriculum, prepare and administer the program budget, and direct activities of the student body and faculty.

  • Experience developing strong clinical partnerships locally and globally to support the academic programs.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Experience with innovative, evidence-based, and technologically rich teaching strategies.
  • Fiscal acumen.
