We have an exciting opportunity for a Cosmic Dust Sample Processor to join the team with JETS II.

The selected candidate will:

  • Process Cosmic Dust sample allocations
  • Prepare collectors, image samples, and track the movement of these samples through the Curation database
  • Provide inventory and cataloging of astromaterial samples
  • Develop skills to work with delicate interplanetary dust particles and micrometeorite
  • Use ultramicrotomy to prepare astromaterials for scanning electron microscopy
  • Use micro-manipulation apparatus and various techniques to process, store, and allocate micro-particle astromaterials
  • Work with a team to process samples in small particles laboratories for sample return missions, including Stardust and Genesis
  • Perform other tasks as required

Job Requirements:

  • A BS degree is typically required
  • Experience working in an ISO5 clean-room laboratory
  • Experience preparing ultramicrotomed samples
  • Experience with Scanning Election microscopy imaging/analysis
  • Have strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Attention to detail and highly developed organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience working with databases ?

Requisition Preferences:?

  • Master's degree in geology, biology, physics, chemistry, or a related physical science field
  • Experience with manipulation of micro-particles using glass needles and various micromanipulators
  • Experience processing and analyzing interplanetary dust particles
  • Experience working with sample databases

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
