Job Description
Ohio States Facilities Design and Construction (FDC) oversees campus design, construction, and renovation projects; engineering support services; and building design and sustainability standards.
FDC provides an unmatched customer experience by delivering the design and construction of projects grounded in integrity, knowledge, passion, and accountability. FDC delivers high quality projects to create positive experiences through the built environment guided by the principles of Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Environmental Stewardship and Diversity, Inclusion and Outreach.
FDC includes four project delivery teams: Wexner Medical Center/Health Sciences, Academic and Administration, Auxiliaries and Regionals, and Engineering & Infrastructure. These teams lead design and construction projects for campus, the medical center, core campus, regional campuses, and auxiliary buildings. The Engineering Support Team provides a critical role in providing highly technical engineering and architectural support to all university units.
Senior Architect: Applies expert knowledge of commonly used architectural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the architectural industry. Provides architectural functions related to building technology, building science, building enclosure performance (including investigation of both contemporary and historic façade cladding, fenestration, roofing, masonry, and waterproofing systems), interior design, aesthetic, architectural preservation technology, and other architectural systems. The position develops and analyzes architectural, preservation, and other building system studies. The Senior Architect functions with a high degree of autonomy, including scope definition, programmatic requirements, design criteria, design review, and discipline specific design expertise.
This position also provides support to FDC Project Managers and Planning Architecture and Real Estate on siting and conceptual design ideas. The Senior Architect assists in updating the Building Design Standards and review of building design variances. This position also provides architectural technical support to all university and medical center units including supporting operations. The Senior Architect examines field conditions, produces studies, directs and interprets results of studies, performs calculations, and assists project management staff within FDC throughout the design and construction process, adapting architectural specifications according to budget constraints, environmental factors, or university stakeholder/operational needs. The Senior Architect will perform thorough quality reviews of drawings and specification for a variety of projects and project related data to verify compliance with project, client, and industry standards. Review for constructability and cross-discipline coordination to ensure adherence to the building design standards while assisting university design and construction staff with delivering high quality projects and design for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of project types.
The Senior Architect will also support facility and infrastructure related initiatives, including but not limited to deferred maintenance renewal. This position will also support university event and emergency related activities. The Senior Architect will work closely and maintains strong relationships with Project Delivery staff/teams, team leaders, university leadership, Operations leadership, Public Safety, other university department staff, front-line technicians, contractors, CampusParc, Ohio State Energy Partners, University Affiliates, A/E firms, consultants, and local/municipal, State, National, and internal organization/entities. The Senior Architect will represent the university in various meetings, committees, etc. and provide mentoring for staff to cultivate an environment of shared knowledge and learning. This position will also complete other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have an eye for detail, be a team oriented, and be an excellent communicator. They will be a highly motivated individual with a passion for implementing and maintaining quality management systems, including quality assurance and quality control, with architectural / construction experience.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or related field. Professional Engineer Licensure or Registered Architect. 4 years of relevant experience required. .
Preferred Requirements:
Target Salary Range: $79,000-$105,000
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
