Job Description:

Coherent Laser Systems and Measurement (LSM) designs and manufactures precision solid state lasers for scientific, medical, instrumentation and vision markets, as well as calibrated laser measurement systems for a wide variety of laser type and power applications. Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Externally - interfaces with vendors, contractors, engineers and/or architects, and government/regulatory officials. Represents the company at meetings with government and regulatory agencies.
  • Internally - interfaces with all levels of company personnel.
  • Contributes to preparation of annual departmental expense budget.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities in a manner that supports business unit production efforts and minimizes business interruption.
  • Seek infrastructure and equipment improvements by identifying and evaluating alternatives.
  • Develop maintenance programs, procedures, schedules, audits, and record keeping for maintenance and repair of facility related equipment.
  • Ensure proper stocking levels for equipment preventive and demand maintenance.
  • Maintains overall assigned site plan.
  • Assists with leasing negotiations for facilities.
  • Coordinates renovations and construction projects
  • Interacts with internal customers to define needs and develop specifications.
  • Leads in the development of costs and schedules for construction and renovation projects. Drafts appropriation requests and completes project on time and within budget.
  • Code compliance evaluated as part of project design effort.
  • Provides as-built drawings for major projects.
  • Orchestrates permitting process for construction and renovation projects, interfacing with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Directs and coordinates the efforts of outside contractors.
  • Janitorial services and groundskeeping
  • Maintains the appearance of buildings and grounds, outsourcing resources as required.
  • Manages and directs the efforts of the in-house custodial staff, supplementing with outside contractors as needed.
  • Leads in determination of division of labor between PP custodial staff and business unit staff.
  • Supports EHS initiatives in management of controlled wastes.
  • Manage collection and disposal of non-regulated solid wastes.
  • Lead site EHS activities in development and implementation of safety procedures, e.g. lockout-tag out, hot work, safety. Proactive stance taken with regard to training and implementation.
  • Assumes lead role in site Safety Committee, and support role with site Laser Safety Committee
  • Assumes lead role for site participation in Corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities.
  • Responsible for design, installation, and maintenance of plant wide security system.
  • Establish relationships with other Site Leads across the global portfolio; partner together and share best practices, offer guidance and expertise as appropriate.
  • Special projects: Perform special projects as assigned by General Manager and/or Senior Management. Assignments are documented and progress reported.


Education & Experience

  • College degree or equivalent with experience in large, complex, and high-growth organizations
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including ability to establish positive relationships with all levels of the organization, in the business community, and with business partners (internal and external)
  • 10-15 years total experience as a Facility Engineer, Facility Manager or Physical Plant Manager in a high tech, multi-faceted organization.
  • Clean room design and construction with emphasis on HVAC
  • Good analytical capabilities. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and HVAC problems.
  • Simultaneous multi-project management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to write specifications and procedures.
  • Computer literate, ability to use project management software.
  • Proven commitment to employee safety, environmental, and health issues.


Working Conditions

  • Typical workday is full time during regular scheduled hours and as needed in case of facility emergencies.
  • Must also be able to respond on short notice to assist on facility related incident if required.
  • Occasional late nights or weekends as necessary.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities.

    • Including roof access, light ladder work, and floor work

  • Expect periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
