Analytical Lab Technician - Greeneville, TN

Job Purpose/Scope

Responsible for collecting and analyzing samples of wastewater, storm water, and other materials to provide data documenting overall compliance with environmental compliance obligations. Presents this data in report forms to State and Federal agencies in a timely fashion to meet all reporting requirements.   Prepares and maintains records for Solid and Hazardous Waste shipping documents and maintains the required EPA and DOT certifications for this activity. The Sr. Analytical Lab Technician is also responsible for calibration and maintenance of the analytical instruments in the Environmental Lab and provides QA/QC support for permit renewals.  Effectively communicates across multiple departments to support the Environmental Management System and promote regulatory compliance.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Perform laboratory analyses of wastewater, storm water, solid and hazardous waste, and maintains DMR-QA parameters in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations.

  • Prepares, submits, and maintains records of regulatory compliance obligation reporting to all regulatory agencies.

  • Assist in technical support of the Inside and Outside Waste Treatment systems and analysis equipment to optimize treatment.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining ISO 14001 requirements in Environmental Laboratory

  • Maintains EPA QA Certification for internal laboratory testing requirements.


Education / Experience / Skills


  • AS or BS in Environmental Health preferred from an accredited university.

  • Certifications in the following a plus:  RCRA Hazardous Waste Management, Hazmat Ground Shipper (DOT), Wastewater Plant Operator

  • Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, and other applications as needed.

  • 5+  years of experience of Laboratory monitoring and compliance within a manufacturing environment,

  • Knowledge of AA instrumentation, CN analyses, and biological wastewater monitoring,

  • Experience with chemical wastewater treatment and biological systems.

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of the organization and regulatory officials,

  • Able to use a systematic approach in solving problems and troubleshooting,

  • Self-motivated to start and finish new assignments with a sense of urgency,

  • Ability to interact with others in a helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport,

  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data for informed decision making.

Physical Requirements


  • Able to clearly communicate in emergencies.

  • Able to access all areas of the facility for the purpose assessing environmental issues throughout the facility including climbing ladders, stepping up upon raised surfaces, and using elevated platforms.

  • Able to wear a respirator and quickly put on PPE appropriate for the facility.

 

Working Conditions


  • Much of the employee’s time is spent in the laboratory but must be comfortable on the production floor gathering samples and communicating with other employees.
