Job: Senior Process Lead

Shift: Afternoons (Mon-Friday 13:30-22:00)

Location: Royal Canin - Rolla, Mo

The Senior Process Lead drives continuous improvement in the extrusion and mixing departments by interfacing with the operators in those departments, the shift manager, and the packaging team lead. In addition, supervises the activities of the Team, ensuring individual member goals are achieved in support of assigned Team goals. The Process Lead functions as an on-shift coordinator and technical expert for the Extrusion and Mixing areas. They will train new operators, fill in for vacancies, drive escalations, ensure operational best practices, and drive down non-quality costs. This position will be similar in scope to the Packaging and Shipping Leads.

The Process Lead will report to the Production Manager and will continually move between Extrusion and Mixing. The main KPIs they will drive will be TRS and NQC on shift. This will be accomplished by ensuring Standard Running Conditions are being followed, best practices for extrusion changeovers are used, and the equipment is kept running. They will own the gathering of scrap amounts for each run that occurs on their shift. The Process Lead will communicate with the Packaging Lead to look for future scheduling conflicts between the Extrusion and Packaging departments and react to them early enough to avoid them. They will proactively drive housekeeping and 5S with the associates in the area and ensure that any equipment leaks are escalated and resolved. They will have a dotted line relationship with the shift manager of their assigned shift. They will participate in the leadership of the impact sessions of their shift.

Responsibilities


  • Actively participate in developing a culture in which safety is a clear value demonstrated in the team's actions and decisions. Accomplished by role modeling behavior-based safety, complete follow through on incidents with urgency, and allowing no deviations to the standards.

  • Uphold the Mars Quality Principle when interacting with others and working on any operational system.

  • Drive Key Performance Indicators (KPI) by actively participating in FMOS and driving the completion of escalations.

  • Provide leadership and coordination for full shifts or multiple process areas, often without a production supervisor assigned. Responsible for understanding the safe and efficient operation of all processing and packaging equipment.

  • Provide support to operators on shift during vacancies, changeovers, or other situations.

  • Drive housekeeping activities on shift in the Process department.

  • Assist Maintenance with Troubleshooting activities, Preventive Maintenance, and identify equipment that is not operating normally.

  • Participate in sanitation activities, including cleaning, validations, and equipment startup.

  • Active backup member on the Food Safety/Food Defense Team and serving on different safety committees and forums as needed to represent the Shift Manager they normally back up.


Education & Professional Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED Required. 3 years' experience in Extrusion or Mixing Departments is preferred.

  • 2+ years leading a team in a goal-oriented capacity.

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines.

  • 2years of work experience within manufacturing or a technical and/or trade discipline

  • Demonstrated computer and PC software competency, including MS Office and email.

  • Knowledge of inventory control principles

  • Some college curricula and the willingness to attend bachelor-level coursework.


Knowledge / Experience

  • Familiar with the operation of the Grinding and Extrusion areas

  • Comfortable with training and leading others

  • Willing and able to learn and cover the role of line manager using Site and Organizational development tools.

  • Utilize tools to develop core competencies for leadership on a high-performing team.

  • Develop skills to manage others toward the goal of a high-performing team.

  • Experience leading CI activities, driving escalations through the FMOS process, and Lean Problem-Solving Techniques

  • Full range of motion, correctable eyesight, correctable hearing, lifting up to 75lbs maximum
