The SGH Heavy Civil Division provides interdisciplinary (structural, civil, and geotechnical engineering) services for buildings, infrastructure, underground structures, and temporary construction. Our staff is experienced in evaluating the performance of existing structures and the design of new structures. We implement innovative techniques for design, analysis, and project management. SGH laboratories support our design and investigation work with material, mechanical, and environmental testing. SGH seeks a motivated and dynamic engineer to grow our structural engineering practice with emphasis on repair and rehabilitation of constructed works, investigation and performance evaluation, and adaptive re-use of existing structures. This position will be part of our Heavy Civil Division. Typical project work includes investigating deteriorated or underperforming structures, conducting structural evaluations for new and existing structures, preparing detailed calculations, developing drawings and specifications, writing investigative reports, and preparing client presentations, managing project budgets and schedules, assisting with mentoring and development of junior staff, interacting with clients and contractors, and managing construction projects.

What Youll Be Doing:

  • Work on a wide range of structural-engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures. The role will focus on the investigation, repair, and restoration of existing buildings, infrastructure, and temporary construction.
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
  • Execute the construction-administration phase of projects, including bid assistance, submittal review, site meetings, observations of completed work, etc.
  • Serve as a manager on projects that may include:
    • Condition assessments of existing buildings
    • Design of rehabilitation and restoration measures for existing structures and preparation of construction documents
    • Design and detailing of structural components for adaptive re-use and modifications of existing building structures
    • Investigation of structural failures and adverse performance issues
    • Preparation of technical reports
  • Responsible for direct client contact within context of assigned work.
  • Pursue professional activities for continued learning experience and to gain professional recognition.
  • Present technical findings at project meetings, conferences, and publications.
  • Actively contribute to internal technical training and mentoring.

What Youll Need:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis, investigation, and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
  • Master of Science or Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License (SE or PE) required.
  • String interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient in writing and editing of project specifications, technical reports, field reports, project correspondence, and proposals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with computer analysis software such as ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, and SAFE.
  • Proficient in scripting tools for engineering computations, such as Mathcad, Python, and VBA.
  • Ability to travel to out-of-state projects on occasion and ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
  • Valid drivers license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
