Job Summary/Basic Function:
Position Overview
Reporting to and working closely with the Senior Associate Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director will implement strategies designed to meet donor participation and revenue goals. As a primary responsibility, the Assistant Director will oversee the development and execution of a multi-channel solicitation and stewardship plan for broad-based campaigns to achieve donor growth goals. The Assistant Director will recruit and work closely with the alumni & parent fundraising advocates to support the peer-to-peer solicitation during broad-based campaigns.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and execute multi-channel annual giving direct marketing strategies for Wheaton College to grow annual giving to the college and its institutional priorities. This includes but is not limited to ensuring an omnichannel approach to print, email, text, social media, web, and digital advertising. Incumbent will also manage the online giving program for the college.
  • Identifies, recruits, trains, briefs, and motivates Giving Advocates (fundraising volunteers). Provide ongoing support for Giving Advocates and ensure they are aware of responsibilities, priorities, and goals to ensure broad campaigns continue to grow.
  • Manage and facilitate at least four broad-based campaigns per semester. Serve as project executor for these campaigns, including, but not limited to, coordinating with data analyst & coordinator on audience curation, partnering with marketing & communications team to develop direct marketing materials, and activating Giving Advocates to amplify the peer-to-peer message.
  • Coordinate and distribute promotional material highlighting annual giving programs in the college. Partners with Advancement Marketing & Communications colleagues to ensure content is current, aligned, and inspired. Charged with curating fundraising materials, including videos, print and digital, volunteer toolkits & templates are prepared and disseminated to all appropriate internal and external parties.
  • Attend department, division, and campus-wide meetings. Attend and appropriately staff division-wide events and programs for students, alumni, parents, and friends. Some night and weekend work is required, especially during Advancement events, Family & Friends Weekend, Fall Fest, and Commencement/Reunion.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least two to three years of annual giving or marketing experience, preferably in nonprofit fundraising environments
  • Demonstrated success in managing volunteers and volunteer programs; oversight of fundraising volunteers highly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written, verbal, presentation, and listening) skills.
  • Can work independently and collaboratively; multitask, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines without compromising quality in a demanding, high-volume work environment.
  • Must be able to engage and build relationships with colleagues, faculty, leadership, staff, alumni, volunteers, donors, and other external constituents.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard applications (including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Zoom) and experience with CRMs or other fundraising systems.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $55,000 – $60,000.
