Description:

Position Summary:

Provide engineering support for on-going and new operations. Maintain and increase production efficiencies as well as troubleshoot problems, identify and implement solution. The Automation Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, troubleshooting, and programming die cast machines, machining, robot applications, conveyor systems, process systems, and other pieces of equipment as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Ability to define problems, to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply advance mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Computer literate to read, write, and reply to e-mail, write reports in Word and PowerPoint, develop Gannt charts and Excel workbooks.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or concerns from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, peers, and plant personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for all controls related activities in the shop, leading and assisting production in all controls related topics and issues
  • Support and assist maintenance team in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures
  • Responsible for implementing and managing continuous process optimization including the addition of advanced and conventional technologies to improve quality, productivity and reduce overall waste
  • Design methods for maintaining or increasing production levels while improving safety, production costs, yields, and quality.
  • Program and/or adjust equipment to achieve required results.
  • Troubleshoot process problems and identify solutions that reduce downtime and conserve maintenance costs.
  • Monitor process equipment to identify potential errors and develop solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.
  • Collaborate with all levels of management and employees to gather information and provide guidance for implementation of improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor's degree from 4 yr. college or university, prefer technical/engineering degree; or 3-5 yrs. experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Controls Engineering experience; advanced PLC programming knowledge Rockwell / Siemens

· Experience using CAD electrical diagrams and prints

· FANUC robotics programming skills required

· Proven project management experience

· In depth knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A)

· In depth knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA)


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

· The position requires the employee to stand; be able to handle and/or feel objects, tools, or controls; and to communicate.

· The employee is occasionally required to walk.

· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.

· Vision abilities required by this job are the same as required for a driver's license in the state in which the person lives, and will be demonstrated by maintaining that license.

· The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.

· The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particle and extreme heat.

· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
