BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS
Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers' storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Administer, improve, and expand the preventive/predictive maintenance program, update existing programs, and add new equipment to existing programs.

  • Specify repair techniques for major repetitive tasks, develop standards specifying the end product and the resources needed for these tasks.

  • Review developed PM procedures with operation superintendents and staff, securing "owner" approval prior to implementation.

  • Refine work content of PM routines to improve methods.

  • Periodically compare PM frequencies and schedules to equipment downtime and equipment histories to identify where they require adjustment. Refine the frequencies on an "economic" basis to avoid "over maintenance."

  • Review all equipment failures. Determine what PM action might have been taken to prevent failure in order to protect against reoccurrence. Revise PMs accordingly.

  • Regularly review downtime and equipment histories to identify reoccurring maintenance problems requiring engineering attention. Find engineering solutions to the identified situations.

  • Work with the maintenance planner to develop job scopes for major unique jobs.

  • Apply value analysis to make maintenance decisions, i.e., repair/replace and repair/redesign.

  • Ensure that accurate, up-to-date spare parts lists are available for existing equipment; specify standardization of components used in repair. Ensure spare parts lists are provided for all new installations and that components identified are consistent with established standards.

  • Identify potential for cost reduction through extended parts life and other parts-related improvement techniques.

  • Participate in review phases of the design of capital projects and changes in terminal layout to ensure full maintainability of equipment, utilities, and facilities.

  • Participate in approval of all new installations, including those done by contractors, to ensure their maintainability and reliability as influenced by life cycle cost.

  • In conjunction with the terminal corrosion specialist study corrosion, fatigue, wear, and erosion rates as it applies to terminal equipment and initiate corrective action as required.

  • Manage complicated and/or specialized diagnostic inspections and analytical procedures.

  • Manage maintenance engineering projects that are outside of the Engineering Department's scope of work. These projects are typically modifications of current systems versus installation of new projects and include such things as sizing pumps (centrifugal and vertical turbine), valves, and orifice plates.

  • Provide technical support to maintenance staff.

  • Assist in development of standards, procedures and training programs

  • Ensure equipment is updated as required within the Work Order system.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Possess an engineering degree and 1-3 years of related industry experience.

  • Have solid logical skills and be proactive in nature.

  • Have a strong understanding of system design and hydraulics.

  • Have an ability to work in a team and as an individual.

  • Must be able to take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedule, focus attention on details and follow policies and procedures.

  • Must be able to read, understand and develop engineering drawings & simple sketches

  • Minimal travel required.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

  • Must pass and complete Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations.

  • Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug schreen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.


Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

  • Be registered or be eligible for registration as an EIT or Professional Engineer (PE).
