JOB TITLE: Structural/Mechanical Estimator

REPORTS TO: Estimating Manager

SUMMARY

Reviews source documents, references, performs ship checks for the Structural Estimating Department to develop accurate estimates for Structural and Mechanical repairs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives RFP’s and RFQ’s and deadlines associated with each.
  • Establishes cadence to monitor progress of estimate and to ensure estimates are submitted by the requested submission date.
  • Delegates (if needed) specific portions of required bids based on type of work to Subject Matter Experts (SME).
  • Reviews Job Material Lists (JML’s) when developed to support material quoting in order to provide accurate estimates.
  • Coordinates material pricing and availability with purchasing for all estimates.
  • Seeks quotes from Subcontractors when needed to support estimate.
  • Reviews historical data to validate hours proposed by SME’s for all new estimates.
  • Reviews RFQ’s / RFP’s for unique qualifications or requirements to ensure capability to perform.
  • Gathers details and compiles data to estimate all production costs according to specifications.
  • Reviews blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to formulate cost estimates.
  • Considers raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation for estimates.
  • Helps determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints.
  • Reviews estimates as requested and analyzes established standards for cost reductions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Familiar with multiple areas of the ship repair industry including but not limited to:
    • Various Pump and valve removal, restoration, installation, alignment, and testing.
    • Ship related structural repairs and/or new construction.
  • Knowledge of production management, logistics, and supply chain concepts and methodologies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products and associated software applications.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • May require a bachelor's degree or 8 years of ship repair experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Most work performed in an office environment under pressured, fast-paced conditions; frequently requires overtime.
  • May require some travel.
  • Minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, heights.
