Job Description:

Department

BSD PAT - Oakes Lab

About the Department

Scott Oakes's laboratory studies how mammalian cells commit programmed cell death in response to various forms of damage and what goes wrong with this process in cancer and other diseases. In particular, they focus on a type of stress that occurs when the cell's protein folding factory-an organelle called the endoplasmic reticulum-is overwhelmed and protein quality control fails. The Oakes Laboratory is actively engaged in developing drugs to control cell fate under these conditions, which have potential to benefit patients with diseases from cancer to neurodegeneration. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.
