Position Summary:

To engage alumni, current students, parents, family and friends more fully within the life and culture of the College by means of cultivating relationships and strengthening relations with the institution. Specifically, the Alumni & Parent Engagement Officer will be responsible for managing and tracking a strategic engagement portfolio, coordinating regional club activities, creating digital communication content to share with these groups, and overseeing class gift committee activities, as well as other appropriate initiatives which positively impact student, alumni, and donor experiences. Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement, this person will be responsible for documenting progress toward key performance indicators that align with the overall strategy and vision of the Institutional Advancement team.


Description of Key Responsibilities:



  1. Manage and track an assigned engagement portfolio approved by the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement. Work cross-functionally alongside the development team to grow philanthropic partnerships. This should be completed with the goal of elevating constituents' engagement with the College and thus increasing their contributions to annual giving with the support of the fundraising team.

  2. Track all constituent engagement in the College's CRM database and provide strategic recommendations on behalf of the entire alumni and parent engagement team as it relates to the qualification and cultivation of new prospects.

  3. Coordinate and execute assigned regional activities, in order to further develop an affinity with the college. Arrangements, including program development, food, equipment, invitations, and solicitations may be made by this person. Travel will be required.

  4. With the goal of increasing alumni engagement, strategically develop and oversee new alumni initiatives, including but not limited to graduate program alumni engagement and class reunions. This will include advising the Class Gift Committee in their task of maintaining engagement as alumni, raising money to support the college and its programs, including educating the importance of philanthropy and instilling a lifelong sense of giving back to North Central College.

  5. Strategically develop the strategy for a digital communications plan that includes social media and other campaigns designed to encourage active engagement in events and promote financial support of the college. Example campaigns may include a monthly alumni newsletter, as well as several other campaigns that promote events targeting specific affinity groups (ie; athletics, fine arts & academic departments). This process may include capturing and editing video content.

  6. As needed, assist with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of major campus events such as Homecoming and other alumni affinity engagements. Attendance and active participation at above listed events is required.

  7. Serve as Alumni team representative to the Alumni Board. Assist with recruitment efforts and board communication. Plan and attend meetings.

  8. Perform other related duties and tasks as appropriately assigned.

  9. This role may require travel approximately 20-30% of the time.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  1.   3. Ability to be innovative, resourceful, logical, enjoy streamlining and improving processes and be motivated to make a difference in the operations of the College.

  4. Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, PremierePro and the ability to adapt and incorporate new technologies required.

  5. Ability to analyze and understand data across various digital engagement platforms. Manage this process with integrity while adhering to all required privacy standards and guidelines, and, as appropriate, communicate any findings or implications with team members who have a need to know.

  6. Knowledge of procedures and techniques relating to alumni engagement in general and fundraising in particular.

  7. Exercise creativity in development of social media posts, email campaigns, video & graphics, as well as when solving problems.

  8. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly grasp and articulate the College's mission, organization and operation, performance, expectations and culture.

  9. Ability to consistently demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the College, both in person, electronically, and on the phone. Ability to work effectively as a member of a staff where cooperation and team work are essential.

  10. Ability, and inclination, to exercise discretion with regard to personal and confidential information.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Maintain a good relationship with college constituents in order to provide opportunities for them to contribute to the student experience by serving as a mentor, guest speaking in or teaching a class, providing professional development and career opportunities and supporting the institution financially.


This position involves a great deal of personal contact with a diverse constituent group, wherein this individual represents the College. This person must work effectively and with the utmost positivity as a member of the College's Institutional Advancement team. Interpersonal skills of the highest order and an ability to effectively articulate the College's mission, values and vision are essential.


As a significant portion of this job involves engaging with alumni, family and friends of the College, it can be expected that this individual will work at times that are other than, or in addition to normal business hours. This includes travel and attending events during evening hours and on weekends.


Education/Training:

A bachelor's degree is required.


Experience:

Experience with marketing and communication, volunteer and event planning, graphic design, preferably in a higher education setting.


Licenses or Certifications:

A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record is required.
