Position Summary:
Will assist the Principal Investigator in a research program that analyzes stool samples from diarrhea patients for the presence of Clostridioides difficile , genetic antibiotic-resistance elements, and other metabolites.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Perform routine stool sample processing and analyses, and prepare growth media and buffers.
Molecular work (i.e., PCR and cloning techniques)
Routine laboratory maintenance duties -- Will also perform routine laboratory duties: maintain lab equipment, order supplies, and reagents, and update laboratory records. Dispenses biohazardous materials by autoclaving and bagging for disposal. Washes and sterilizes glassware, pipets, instruments, and tips. Collects lab coats for laundry. Perform other general lab duties as needed.

Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
Bachelor of Science
Minimum Experience:
One year of experience with laboratory and/or scientific procedures. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Preferred:
One year of laboratory experience OR two years of college including courses in biochemistry, molecular biology, basic genetics OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Laboratory experience with basic techniques in molecular biology, including DNA and RNA preparation and extraction, molecular cloning, gel electrophoresis, PCR, etc.
College-level course or equivalent in general laboratory techniques and molecular techniques, including the ability to prepare solutions
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
