Job Description:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Take part in the installation, management and support of advanced data communications equipment (e,g., routers, switches,VPN, QOS) in both corporate campus networks and large branch office environments. Experience and complete understanding of Switching and Routing is a requirement. Clear understanding of network physical layers and capable of the installation and support for all network infrastructure.

  • Responsible for adds, moves, and changes of data communications systems (e,g., routers,switches,VPN, QOS) corporate wide.

  • Assist the Voice Engineer with the install and configuration of Virtual PBX voice and meeting systems.

  • Take part in the design and install of Branch changes/additions/removals including switching, routing, video, voice and security systems.

  • Responsible for Vendor Billing and monitoring to ensure accurate costs and fit for current corporate needs.

  • Assist the Voice/Video Engineer with the installation and maintainance of the corporate Video Security infrastructure.  Support CIS area in security infrastructure including Fire alarm panels.

  • Network/Voice wiring as needed for additions/changes of network devices.

  • Report and Monitor system performance and uptime using such tools as Solarwinds and NetBrainz. Maximizes network performance by montoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades;

  • Work within the established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure. Ensures the corporate network documentation is complete and up to date

  • Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.

  • Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access. Works with ECDS manager and security team to segment and protect corporate network infrastructure from cyber threats.

  • Keeps track of yearly audit recommendations and uses current tools to ensure audit findings are corrected and procedures are followed as designed.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organization.

  • Work with Asset specialist to track and inventory corporate equipment. Document proper disposal of expired equipement.  Track EOL and Service Warranty status for all Enterprise equipment.  Create and maintain detailed information of all communications equipment corporate wide.

  • Works with vendors to provide resolution to both emergency issues and installation issues of equipment. Involvement in vendor selection and negotiation for services provided to our corporation.

  • Day to day support for all Communication issues. Reports on all issues to management.  Responsible for supporting company employees in the use of communications and server equipment. Provide management with proactive problem resolutions for IP Telephony systems

  • Work with other employees of the ECDS department for disaster & recovery testing on telecommunications and data communications network on quarterly basis.

  • Responsible for coordination of third party vendors in large adds, moves, and changes. Responsible for coordination of third party vendors for support issues.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ensures all actions performed are in compliance with government regulations and organizational policies and procedures.


 


SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES/EXPERIENCE



  • A minimum of an Associates Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent in telecommunications/informations systems

  • 5 to 10 years experience in data communications systems and technologies including routing/switching.

  • Proven hands-on networking and systems experience

  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC,HSRP,BGP,OSPF, 11, QOS)        

  • Basic understanding of Virtualization and Physical computer systems.

  • Hands on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and networking analytics tools

  • Advanced troubleshooting & problems solving skills are required, you must be able to gather facts and draw a conclusion quickly.

  • Knowledge of Cisco hardware/software a plus.

  • High level of system WAN up-time measured across all network locations Some travel required.

  • Fast complete resolution of data communications and telecommunication system problems

  • Good communications skills with staff, vendors and company personnel
