Job Description:

The Associate Director for Post-Award Financial Management of Sponsored Projects will work with principal investigators and research administration to ensure regulatory compliance, oversee processes, and optimize operations. The responsibilities of the Associate Director include managing staff who are responsible for the post-award financial management of sponsored projects at Nemours. This includes but is not limited to sponsored research awards, subawards, clinical trials, and internal awards.

This role will oversee staff assignments, workload assessments and overall workflow within OSP and build staff expertise within the respective operational areas. The Associate Director will assess and monitor on-going education and policy updates as well as sponsor regulations and continuously improve how Nemours may best support the research faculty and team members as well as oversee process improvements and quality assurance within OSP. The role will serve as a liaison to facilitate coordination and compliance with key teams such as research finance, research accounting, research administration, IRB, IACUC, and COI from award set-up to close-out. Sponsors include federal, state & commercial and non-profit entities. Ensures high quality and minimum program costs by implementing and maintaining a quality management program and program metrics.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise staff who perform the primary actions identified above. This includes receive, triage, perform initial review, gather additional required documents, and refer complete award or proposal file to the appropriate individual for review, negotiation, and final approval.
  • Assist OSP Director in strategic planning related to policy, organizational structure, process, and professional growth and development of OSP staff. In coordination with research leadership, assess gaps and overlaps in business processes and lead efforts to analyze and streamline processes to improve organizational metrics, performance and ensure consistency across the office.
  • Oversight to ensure compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance and grant specific requirements with regard to procurement, subrecipient monitoring and asset disposal.
  • Consult both internal and external sources as may be required to finalize agreements and proposals.
  • Ensure that effective on-going training programs are in place for all OSP positions and processes supporting research administration across Nemours Children's Health, including developing and participating in training/guidance of research team members and faculty in understanding various applicable sponsor policies and regulations and systems supporting sponsored projects.
  • Participate in institutional committees for research compliance and sponsored programs administration.

  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in business/management/operations, public health or science related field required.
    • CRA, Certified Research Administrator preferred
    • Administrative experience with federal research grants, sponsored projects, contracts and/or research compliance administration experience, preferably involving grant award mechanisms, non-profit foundations and research agreements.
    • Supervisory experience with direct report management is also required with a proven background to successfully lead a team of professionals to accomplish the work and foster research administration career development.
    • Experience with research agreements and contract drafting/negotiation and sponsored regulatory environment necessary.
