Nemours is seeking a Clinical Pathway Specialist to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Orlando, Florida.

Nemours is seeking an experienced and passionate Lean facilitator to join a dynamic team of improvement specialists, strategists, portfolio, and project managers. The Clinical Pathway Specialist drives sustainable clinical improvements across the enterprise, delivering breakthrough results while building cultural change throughout the organization. This position requires strong Lean and/or quality improvement background and hands-on leadership skills, with an insatiable passion for learning. A roll-up-your-sleeves, hands on collaborator who is eager to support a transformational strategy and dynamic operation.

The Clinical Pathway Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of clinical pathways by functioning as an analyst, facilitator, coach, consultant and/or project manager as required. This individual will work throughout the system with a broad range of stakeholders including clinical and non-clinical partners. This work includes developing clinical pathway, facilitating meetings to develop medical consensus across the system, project management, facilitating PDSA cycle meetings and developing processes to support pathway adoption. The individual in this role must be able to flex their style and approach to support the needs of each improvement to ensure successful execution and outcomes.

The development phase consists of baseline data review, literature review, 4 actuals, obtaining clinical consensus, pathways development and epic integration. The implementation phase includes launching, communication, education, follow up, and sustainment of the pathway over time using PDSA cycles to ensure the clinical and operational benefits are achieved.


  • Facilitates, guides, and supports enterprise, departmental, or cross-departmental clinical pathway/improvement work as directed by executive leadership. This encompasses preparation and planning for improvement events, assessments, implementation, and ongoing support.
  • A strong application knowledge of Lean and/or QI mindset is essential. In addition, a deep understanding of a daily management system and related improvement tools, including Standard Work, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen Events, Value Stream Mapping, Process Mapping, 5S, Waste, etc. Assures adherence to continuous improvement standards and methodologies across the enterprise Provides formal improvement training as well as serving as an educational resource, coach, and consultant.
  • Prospects and proactively identifies opportunities for improvement, coach leaders to identify needs, works through organizational barriers to successfully implement, and achieve and sustain improvement targets.
  • Participates in tactical planning for the clinical pathway work to be done in concert with Nemours leadership. Research internal and external benchmarks, develops, maintains, and revises work plans as needed. Monitors outcomes. Integrates work with other departmental initiatives and revises as needed.
  • Uses knowledge of waste elimination tools and techniques to identify clinical and operational opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrates the ability to challenge the status-quo and encourage breakthrough thinking to ensure continuous improvement principles are implemented.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in lean facilitation, mindset, management system & methods required.
  • Extensive knowledge of lean management systems, tools, and methodologies and demonstrated coaching/mentoring of individuals to conduct workshops independently.
  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred.
