Job Summary

The Purchasing Manager leads the purchasing team and is responsible for non-raw material buying to ensure no out-of-stock conditions exist. Processes purchase orders and change orders. Works with suppliers to secure quality goods and services at competitive pricing and communicates any risks in a timely manner. Monitor on time delivery, expedite, solicit bids, and prepare cost comparisons for best pricing selection. Works with local and national vendors.

Responsibilities


  • Supervises a team of purchasing agents.

  • Enters purchase orders into SAP system and send to supplier.

  • Monitors confirmations from suppliers for price and delivery dates, updating SAP to reflect changes.

  • Monitors on-hand inventory and prioritize requirements with multiple suppliers to ensure adequate stock to fill customer orders, working closely with the scheduling and operations teams.

  • Monitors pricing against manifests daily to ensure correct billing by suppliers.

  • Checks invoices/quantities from domestic and foreign containers entered into SAP.

  • Manages returns to and credits from suppliers for non-conforming material.

  • Works with the corporate purchasing team to meet with suppliers to negotiate material cost/delivery and quality.

  • Works with the Engineering team to incorporate new vendors and/or materials needed for new product launches.

  • Acts as the interface between engineering/production and suppliers to resolve quality discrepancies such as mislabeling, over shipments and mismarked or out of spec material issues.

  • Manages open order reports for all suppliers to maintain accurate delivery dates.

  • Manages expedites, change orders and delay firm planned orders based on custom order demands.

  • Monitors and reports purchasing metrics to ensure aged PO's are closed, vendor management is consistent, late PO's are investigated, and invoicing issues are resolved.

  • Manages material master vendor data in SAP.

  • Other duties may be assigned based on the needs of the business.

Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in business related area.

  • 5+ years of purchasing experience, with a minimum of 3 years' experience in a senior purchasing or management position.

  • 3+ years of SAP purchasing experience required, including demonstrated understanding of material master data and supplier management.

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
