Staff Accountant

Job Description:

This Staff Accountant position is responsible for assisting the Controller and General Accountant with the preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, tax related work, and the annual financial audit.

• Prepare journal entries and perform complex and detailed reconciliations and accounting close processes with an emphasis on travel and entertainment, tax deductibility and taxable fringe benefits.


• Prepare and file various tax-related reports, business license renewals, and conduct annual projects such as unclaimed property.


• Audit expense reports for compliance with company policies as well as ensuring the appropriate G/L coding for GAAP and tax deductibility purposes.


• Set up and maintain non-trade vendors, collect W-9s from vendors, and prepare and file annual 1099s.


• Assist with the year-end financial statement audit as well as materials provided by client for tax purposes.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of Associate’s degree preferred; 5+ years in a fast-paced accounting department with demonstrated ability to reason through accounting concepts, tax rules, and other issues. Specific General Ledger experience and/or formal classroom accounting training a plus.


• Strong Excel skills required.


• Ability to understand accounting transactions and computer software applications. 


• Strong attention to detail is necessary as well as the ability to understand complex concepts.


• Ability to prioritize and organize multiple responsibilities and adhere to deadlines.


• Ability to work with confidential information.


• Clear verbal and written communication skills.


• Work independently and as part of a team.
