To continue our growth, we have an opening for an Import Specialist at our brand new headquarters in Milwaukee, WI. 

Job Description:

The Import Specialist coordinates logistics for Rite-Hite’s imports, including quoting, booking and securing required import documentation from the overseas vendors. In addition, this position must support all import requirements as required by US Customs and Border Protection for entry of goods into the United States. Ultimately, this position is impactful in ensuring the timely arrival of critical inbound components and products required to keep our manufacturing teams on schedule with promised production dates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

This position is responsible for the following:

Maintaining a strong working knowledge and demonstrated ability to properly navigate and understand US Customs regulations. This includes facilitating a strong relationship with Rite-Hite’s customs broker to ensure proper due diligence and reasonable care are followed. This also includes maintenance of proper record keeping for the required time-frame.  

Facilitating relationships with Rite Hite’s freight forwarders to obtain competitive import freight quotes, to book shipments and to manage all necessary import documentation. This requires a strong working knowledge and demonstrated ability with global logistics, including modes of ocean, air and courier. As well, demonstrated knowledge of applicable INCOterms.

Coordinating international inbound shipments with Rite-Hite’s manufacturing facility purchasing teams  and warehouses to determine product readiness; to obtain overseas contact information, packaging sizes and pertinent shipment details required to book shipment; to provide shipment details and updates, including any additional instructions or requirements for timely inbound arrival of shipments.

Working knowledge of various Free Trade Agreements to obtain required documentation from overseas vendors, to ensure duty free status for qualifying imports.

Working knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the US Harmonized Tariff schedule.

Providing back up support for the Export Specialists and International CSRs. This includes assistance with export freight quotes, booking of export shipments, export documentation or other export related support as appropriate.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

To maximize internal customer satisfaction related to international inbound shipments through timely and effective management, including booking and shipment of inbound POs, daily tracking of in-transit shipments and pro-active securing of required import documentation.

To demonstrate due diligence and ensure compliance with all US Customs Import Regulations. To document and follow consistent import processes. To maintain complete and accurate records, per regulations. To audit and assess compliance with regulations.

To facilitate strong working partnerships with our Customs Broker and freight forwarders, assuring compliance, strong service and competitive rates.

To establish clear and concise communications both internally and externally, through high attention to detail and superior organizational skills, demonstrating ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Required Experience:

Associates or Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a college or university and two to four years related import experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
