Job Description:

Scope

Focus on improving site automated process flows, supporting site engineering with large scale initiatives, and conducting smaller scale, individual based improvements.  Interacts with internal customers regarding the performance of automated processes achieving planned production schedules.

Job Summary:

Repairs, performs preventive maintenance, and identifies continuous improvement opportunities for specialized manufacturing processes, while seeking opportunities to develop others within the maintenance organization. 

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:


  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives / Activities


  • Understands site Key Business Metrics to drive focused improvements.  Applies structured problem-solving tools to implement robust solutions, results documented through verification.

  • Define, Plan, & Execute individual based improvement initiatives within the site and within SOP guidelines.  Adherence to verification/validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) protocols is required.

  • Design & dimension of components for automation machine systems, in CAD, including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical details.

  • Works with external vendors, site Engineers & other CooperVision site SME’s to improve Scottsville manufacturing processes.

  • Fabricate machine details utilizing various machine shop functions, in support of manufacturing needs.

  • Effectively able to understand automated process flows and facilitate improvements to automated logic control systems.


  • Troubleshoot, Repair, and Maintenance for all production equipment.


  • Diagnose and resolve Electrical, Mechanical, & Process issues for various automated equipment. 

  • Functional knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment.

  • Interpret and apply written specifications, schematic drawings, parts lists, prints and sketches to install, maintain, and repair equipment.

  • Effectively communicate, both verbal and written, technical system problems with management and other support groups.

  • Minimize lost time incidents by engaging support groups, both internal & external.


  • Preventative maintenance for all production equipment.


    • Conducts periodic audits of scheduled preventive maintenance events to ensure tasks are completed on time for their functional support area.

    • Assists maintenance personnel in completion of preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

    • Documents completion of preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with SOP procedures.

    • Develops and/or reviews preventive maintenance procedures, for site manufacturing equipment.




  • Maintain documentation according to internal and external regulations.


    • Support periodic review and approval of Preventive Maintenance, and other SOP procedures / Work Instructions.

    • Record activities for all equipment interactions, including but not limited to, preventive maintenance and breakdowns into Blue Mountain software system.

    • Provide updates for electrical and mechanical drawings as needed to sustain accurate prints, supporting various automated equipment cells.




  • Provide next level of support for other individuals within the Scottsville manufacturing site.


  • Provide coaching & training within the maintenance and engineering team.

  • Provide coaching to operators on automation process functions and associated best practices.

  • As business needs dictate, works extended hours, including phone support, for complex issues, to meet daily Business Unit goals.

  • Support Engineering on improvements and initiatives facilitating the achievement of site goals.

  • Provide leadership support for facility related issues during normal working hours to sustain or return flow to key manufacturing processes (e.g., power outages, water leaks, weather, etc.)


  • Willingness to perform various tasks ensuring company goals are met.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) experience required. Allen Bradley preferred. 

  • Industrial Robots & CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) experience preferred.

  • Functional knowledge of Vision Systems & Laser Marking Systems

  • Exhibits excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and comprehension of the English language.

  • Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures and Regulatory requirements.                    

  • General knowledge of various hand tools and their designed purpose.

  • Common ability in the use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.

Work Environment:


  • Clean, Climate Controlled Environment - Medical Device Manufacturing

  • Generally, works indoors, with moderate noise levels

  • Exposure to common machine chemicals or solvents (oil/cleaning agents)

  • Physical requirements include Standing, Walking, and Lifting (up to 50 lbs)

Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Notifies conditions, near misses, accidents and incidents including environmental, that occurred in site’s premises to prevent or eliminate any risk or exposure.

  • Communicates any process changes that may impact Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability aspects to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations including protection of people and the environment.

  • Promotes a safe and environmentally friendly workplace

Experience:


  • 7 - 10 years maintenance experience in PLC (controls), electrical, mechanical and/or related fields.

  • Experience working in medical device or optics manufacturing is desired.

Education:


  • Associates degree or equivalent two-year technical school program required.

  • Completion of an apprenticeship program, military program or trade school with 7 years of directly related experience.
