Position Overview

This position will work with the Sr. Manager Performance and Total Rewards in developing a comprehensive Total Rewards Strategy to attract, retain and motivate employees in support of an industry-leading people care strategy. This position is responsible for the administration, creation, development and coordination of benefits, wellness, and compensation programs for the organization to support and align with business objectives and strategy.

Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities


  • Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Total Rewards Strategy. Programs include but are not limited to: life and health insurance, disability, wellness, compensation, and other benefits offered by the company.

  • Manages the company Wellness program and monitors participation, engagement, outcomes and Return on Investment (ROI).

  • Oversees the administration of employee benefit enrollments, deductions, and records.

  • Manages the Annual Open Enrollment process including but not limited to development of plans, employee communications, ensuring completion of employee enrollment and accuracy of records.

  • Communicates benefit plans and changes via announcement materials, booklets, and other media.

  • Reviews benefit documentation to ensure plan texts and compliance notifications are in order and maintains compliance calendars.

  • Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies. Instructs carriers, trustees and other administrative agencies outside the company of changes in benefit programs.

  • Partners with broker(s) to develop census data and solicitation of insurance companies for quotes. Maintains vendor relations and acts as liaison between company and vendor.

  • Reviews current benefits programs to identify gaps in strategy and develops recommendations for improvements and to ensure market competitiveness.

  • Manages the annual benefits operating plan as established by the Finance department. Determines appropriate levels of annual benefit premiums based on costs, funding and organizational philosophy.

  • Ensures the administration of benefits complies with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act and applicable laws, established guidelines and company processes and procedures.

  • Supervises preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal, state and other regulatory agencies.

  • Keeps abreast of changes to laws pertaining to benefits and reports necessary or suggested changes to management.

  • Coordinates company benefits with government-sponsored programs.

  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, teamwork, work processes and financial performance as related to benefits programs, policies and procedures.

  • Oversees administration of compensation programs and structures and support development and implementation of new base pay programs.

  • Provides advice and guidance to management on compensation questions and issues, including compensation reviews and placement of positions within compensation programs and structures.

  • Develops effective compensation programs, job evaluations, guidelines and procedures. Recommends plan revisions as well as new plan designs which are cost effective and consistent with compensation trends, corporate guidelines and company objectives.

  • Manages the administration of base compensation (executive, exempt and nonexempt compensation programs) for all employees.

  • Assists in the administration of variable pay plans

  • Develops and maintains the organization's Compensation Philosophy including approving compensation amounts for new hires and changes for existing employees resulting from job reclassification, transfer, location change, promotion, etc.

  • Provides advice on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation and job evaluation including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs.

  • Identifies and ensures participation in both exempt and nonexempt salary surveys to ensure corporate and business unit compensation objectives are achieved.

  • Creates the Investment Committee agenda, decision points and plan document content, ensuring a quarterly review and regulatory compliance to regulations.

  • Keeps apprised of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations in order to ensure company compliance.

  • Partners with the Company's third-party administrator to ensure efficient and compliant administration of the Retirement Plan. This includes reporting and regular reviews to show retiree and Plan activity and confirm compliance with Plan provisions. Partner with internal teams to ensure effective and aligned Plan administration.

  • Oversees the effective communication of the company's employee benefit and compensation plans and programs ("Total Rewards") to optimize impact and understanding and to drive employee engagement and retention.

  • Collaborates with internal technology team to develop and continuously enhance systems supporting benefits and compensation administration, including Dayforce, ensuring an excellent employee experience, efficient internal administration and strong reporting and analytics.

  • Manages, coaches and develops Benefits and Compensation team members, with an emphasis on continual improvement of systems, processes and reporting to ensure efficient and effective operations.

  • May be requested to perform different or additional duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Finance, Business or related discipline required.

  • Minimum 2 plan years of experience directly managing a self-insured health plan and associated budget.

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in compensation administration.

  • CBP, CCP, PHR and/or SPHR certifications preferred.
