The Job Details are as follows:

Executive Director, Operations Technology is responsible for the global strategy and day-to-day activities related to OCLC’s technology solutions and infrastructure. The Executive Director is responsible for the planning, directing, organizing and supervising of all Operations Technology activities and staff globally.  This scope includes data center, cloud, storage, virtualized and container-based compute, networks, development tools, operations, service desk, voice/video, desktop and remote offices.  This role reports to the CTIO and will collaborate with IT, senior leaders, and 3rd party vendors to deliver platforms that provide availability, capacity, and performance to the enterprise to keep pace with business demands. This role is also responsible for a 24/7 SOC (global monitoring center for all of OCLC's systems and sub-systems).  The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, an ability to build collaborative relationships and have a general knowledge of converged architecture, cloud, containers and continuous delivery. 

Responsibilities


  • Lead high performing infrastructure teams to provide technology and operational excellence for OCLC applications hosted world-wide.

  • Ensure infrastructure expectations are met in support of application development initiatives.

  • Partner with key business stakeholders, functional groups, and development teams to meet business requirements and resulting product and service goals.

  • Collaborate to deliver innovative solutions that meet availability, functionality, performance, reliability, repeatability, scalability, and speed to market expectations.

  • Build and maintain compute, storage and network infrastructure that meets all useability requirements, is highly reliable and available, and maintains an appropriate level of redundancy within the budgetary guidelines.

  • Collaborate with security to define and implement global security architecture and systems needed to meet the wide range of compliance standards.

  • Facilitate the maintenance and continuous improvement of processes, compliance, policies and procedures for ensuring applications, network systems and assets are safeguarded.

  • Accountable for production systems and environments, including responsibility for the overall enterprise-wide effectiveness and efficiency of data center (on premise and cloud) technology systems and networks to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and reliability.

  • Global collaboration tools including Office 365, voice systems and video conferencing, remote physical office technology, network connectivity and end user support.

  • Global Service desk including end user technology planning, deployment, support and retirement.  Global support for company functions, industry conferences, and member events.

  • Participate in the creation and review of IT business plans, annual budgets (CapEx/OpEx) and forecasts.   Responsible for managing to or exceeding operating and capital budget targets.

  • Review vendor contracts and costs for IT services and solutions. Proactively manage renewals and optimize where possible.

  • Lead staff to ensure deadlines, risks, constraints, resources, tasks, and priorities are understood and communicated.

  • Ensure that major incidents are properly identified and swiftly escalated to appropriate teams and other initiatives, projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or similar field, MBA or advanced technical degree is preferred.

  • Ten+ years of progressive IT Management/Leadership experience implementing and managing enterprise infrastructure projects and operations.

  • Strong knowledge of data center architectures and operations, server architectures and management, network technology and end user technologies.

  • Proven experience managing and maintaining “Enterprise Grade” data centers, cloud and SaaS solutions at scale.

  • Experience with infrastructure and operational support for containers and continuous deployment methodologies.

  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies, preferably AWS.

  • Proven experience creating and managing outsourced relationships, both domestic and global. Experience managing large vendor relationships.

  • Strong contract negotiation skills and developing recommendations on purchases based upon judgments of necessity while striving to increase quality of services.

  • Experience developing and managing departmental financial budgets and forecasts.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across the organization, align objectives and deliver results.

  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, presentation and customer relations.

  • Proven background in project management, technical support and production support.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in telemetry, monitoring technologies and reporting capabilities.

  • Demonstrated experience working with technical and non-technical staff, outstanding organizational and team building skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
