WHAT THIS OPPORTUNITY OFFERS


As a member of our Infrastructure & Operations team,  the Sr. DevOps Engineer plays a key role in promoting and assisting in evolving DevOps at Mutual of America with best practices and continuous process improvements to establish a mature DevOps environment/program and DevOps governance. You will work with a DevOps team in administration and management of automated build/release management tools and overseeing our continuous integration and delivery pipeline. You will be expected to demonstrate your leadership mindset, solid operational experience, ability to problem-solve, knowledge of latest industry trends, and be highly innovative.


WHO YOU WILL PARTNER WITH


In this role, you will partner with development and quality engineering management and other technical staff in the application design for software as a service delivery; work on projects requiring technical decision making and providing input to delivery schedules.  The role ensures ongoing application support for development and live production systems by diagnosing and resolving highly complex issues, identifying, recommending, and implementing options for improving performance, maintainability, and operability; update existing practices and procedures, as defined by your supervisor.


The responsibilities of this opportunity include the following:



  • Lead, and inspire a team of DevOps engineers.

  • Work to develop and build a highly effective and mature DevOps system.

  • Work with supervisor to assign and monitor work of junior technical personnel, ensuring that application infrastructure development and deployment is done in the best possible way, and implements quality control and review systems throughout the development and deployment processes.

  • Identify, evaluate, and execute preventive measures to minimize/avoid impact to the customer’s experience.

  • Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, trend analysis.

  • Perform analysis and approval of new code through security and performance gates that you will design and develop for feature-complete software. Be an advocate for security and performance standards in the organization.

  • Lead the team’s adherence to ITIL and other audited regulatory compliance (PII) programs.

  • Update management in case of critical incidents and act as a point of contact for other related communications.

  • Works within IT and Technical Operations, business stakeholders and with vendors, to successfully identify, prioritize, and resolve issues and provide subject matter expertise for enhancements, developments, and operational improvements.

  • Ensures system technical specifications, process, procedures, runbooks, SOPs, and infrastructure requirements definitions based on conceptual design are maintained and high-quality for all technical and non-technical deliverables to a wider organizational audience.

  • Work to ensure the development of our SaaS public and private cloud infrastructure are conducted in cost-conscious ways, using 'infrastructure as code' and automated environment provisioning tools and techniques.

  • Participate in the full software and infrastructure development life cycle process including requirements analysis and design implementation.

  • Performs leadership work to accomplish tasks and projects within defined timelines and in a professional manner in alignment with active standards.

  • Keeps abreast of technical trends and develops and incorporates them within assignments as appropriate; recommends improvements and changes to supervisor and team.

  • Possesses expert technical understanding of the intersection of development and operations (DevOps), monitoring and management tools, and deployment processes and tools.

  • Assist project teams with technical issues in the planning phase of sites or project development efforts.

  • Work with their team members and other systems engineers to make improvements.

  • Must understand and be able to support Agile methodology.


WHAT WE ASK OF YOU


We are looking for someone who demonstrates a leadership mindset, has solid operational experience, and the ability to problem-solve, know the latest industry trends, and be highly innovate.  In addition to these attributes, you should meet the following minimum requirements:  



  • College degree preferred.

  • 3+ years showing demonstrated experience in a Senior DevOps Engineer or similar role.

  • Cloud provider experience (i.e., AWS).

  • Proficiency in building pipelines using a CI/CD tool such as AWS.

  • Strong knowledge of security practices, TLS, and data encryption (AWS KMS or similar).

  • 3-5 years of experience working within a modern web-based environment. 

  • Knowledge of the Kubernetes ecosystem and experience creating and troubleshooting Kubernetes workloads.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash and Python. 

  • Understanding of security controls and configurations for SOC2 compliance.

  • Experience with Atlassian tools Jira and Confluence.

  • Able to quickly identify and drive to the optimal solution when presented with a series of constraints.

  • Self-motivation with excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work

  • Excellent communication skills; can communicate ideas effectively (written and orally).

  • This position is designated as essential to the operation of Boca Raton Computer Operations. Accordingly, as part of their regular duties, employees in this position must be available at all times, at the discretion of management to perform their job functions, including, but not limited to the event of a potential hurricane or other emergency situations.
