Position Title: Senior Attorney, Zoning & Permitting (P4)

Role


Provide legal analysis and advice to internal clients regarding regulatory, land use, and environmental matters. Advocate, negotiate and educate as an external advocate working with public sector attorneys and officials. The ideal candidate will work well in a team environment and show a demonstrated interest in telecommunications infrastructure, deployment of telecommunications facilities, and regulation of the same.


Responsibilities



  • Respond to legal inquiries and advise and assist Crown Castle personnel regarding zoning, planning, and permitting issues under federal, state, and local laws, including developing strategy, drafting documents, resolving disputes, interacting with state and local agencies, and managing outside counsel when necessary.

  • Identify, understand, analyze and communicate current and proposed federal, state, and local laws and regulations that may impact Crown Castle performance, operations, and compliance, particularly with respect to zoning and permitting matters and telecommunications.

  • Assist with developing and maintaining Crown Castle procedures, forms, and written guidance and provide advice and guidance to management on business and legal processes.

  • Design and provide training to Crown Castle personnel.


Expectations 



  • Sound, reasoned business judgment; comfortable “being an owner” and making strategic decisions considering both legal and business factors; ability to “think outside the box” to find creative solutions consistent with applicable law

  • Strong knowledge of land use, regulatory, and real estate law preferred, as well as basic knowledge of litigation, contract, corporate, and environmental law



  • Ability and desire to work with federal, state and local legislation, codes, and ordinances

  • Telecommunications (including wireless) experience useful

  • Experience working with and resolving challenges, with preference for experience with state and local jurisdictions or in land use matters

  • Ability to work with structural analysis, permit drawings, construction documents, and construction

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team, problem solve, and make decisions

  • Thorough knowledge of legal research and writing techniques

  • Superior communication skills – written and verbal, with ability to present complex material at a level appropriate to a particular audience

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Working knowledge of MS Office

Education/Certifications  



  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school

  • Attorney’s License


Experience/Minimum Requirements  



  • Five (5) or more years of related legal experience; combined in house and outside counsel experience preferred


Organizational Relationship  


Reports to:  Managing Counsel or Associate General Counsel

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week).  There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
