Job Description:

The Riverlorian is responsible for creating and delivering a variety of presentations in an easily digestible and entertaining manner to all guests onboard. This position must establish relationships with guests and at all times, help the entertainment team foster a relaxing and informational atmosphere.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities



  • Creating and delivering informative, entertaining presentations on a variety of topics, including history, natural history, and riverboating in general

  • Continually expanding your body of knowledge about the region

  • Making daily announcements about the river and the course we are on

  • Performing on-deck narration describing the area through which we are cruising

  • Introducing any special guest lecturers

  • Upkeep of all library materials and resources kept onboard

  • Hosting any onboard activities scheduled by the Cruise Director

  • Participating in greeting and welcoming of our guests in onboard embarkation.

  • Cleanliness and up keep of all entertainment areas.

  • Adhering to any changes or additions to this list or any cruise layout.

  • Participating in weekly fire and abandon ship drills.

  • Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed

  • Actively participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as needed

  • Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results

Requirements & Qualifications 

Education:                                                                         


  • HS Diploma or Equivalent Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in History, Communication or a similar field preferred

  • Professional Certification(s) or License:

  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain

  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status

  • Valid Driver's License 

Skills & Abilities:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner

  • Logically and independently plan, organize and complete work assignments

  • Must maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance

Experience:


  • Two years of experience in a position with similar duties and responsibilities

  • Cruise industry experience preferred

Physical:


  • Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical

  • Ability to meet and maintain the maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs.

  • Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some/all the following: confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders

Other: 


  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.
