JOB BRIEF


Creates and manages a portfolio of multimedia projects including, but not necessarily limited to, video, podcasts, photography, and presentation design. S/he translates Institute objectives and messaging into compelling content using clear creative strategies. This position reports to the deputy director of communications and is an integral part of the Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) team.


TARGET SALARY RANGE


Grade 12 - $87,000 - $90,000


The Institute uses the General Schedule salary tables for administering compensation. Offers of employment are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity, and amount budgeted for the position.


RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Designs, develops, produces, records, and edits new multimedia and design content based on institute needs from concept to completion, including video, podcasts, photography, and presentation designs.

  • Manages all aspects of certain projects (establishing and negotiating budgets, releasing and reviewing requests for proposals, managing the project production, and making recommendations for and implementing dissemination strategies), often on a very tight deadline. Provides support and guidance to program teams as they develop their own projects.

  • Develops captions, subtitles, and transcripts as needed.

  • Establishes a strategic plan for multimedia content based on industry standards and best practices that aligns with the institute’s priorities.

  • Develops creative guidelines and policies for all multimedia products. Ensures these standards are consistently met. Provides quality control over concepts and projects.

  • Conceptualizes a unifying brand identity for USIP’s multimedia content, ensuring visual communication and brand standards are met.

  • Creates and updates PowerPoint design templates and maintains the “About USIP” presentation.

  • Assists others with developing and designing visually appealing and engaging presentations and documents, using institutional templates, brand policy and best practices. Responds to short-fuse requests for USIP and stock photos and other collateral.

  • Working closely with the PAC events team, applies creative strategies to marketing for events, including photo selection, original designs, etc., as requested.

  • Maintains project management records. Develops, catalogs, and maintains USIP’s multimedia archives. Works with PAC’s photographer and across USIP programs to collect, edit, and archive multimedia assets.

  • Maintains PAC’s multimedia production equipment.

  • Builds strategic partnerships and cultivates contacts with external experts (i.e. producers, editors, translators, videographers, etc.) and a wide variety of external organizations to leverage resources and combine efforts to promote USIP projects.

  • Follows the latest trends in design, production, and new-media platforms. Remains abreast of technological advances in the field and identifies areas of use in the institute.

Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or a related field of study or commensurate experience.

  • A minimum of six (6) years of related experience.

  • Understanding of foreign policy.

  • Mastery of Adobe Premiere, Audition, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. Experience with Adobe Dreamweaver preferred.

  • Expert PowerPoint skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to adapt to changing requirements and work effectively with the input of multiple collaborators.

  • Experience working across organizations, with all departments, and with vendors to design high-quality products that communicate ideas effectively and within budget.

  • Strong organizational and program management skills and the ability to work both independently and collegially with staff of all levels and from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
