Position Overview –
AJM Packaging Corporation, one of America’s leading manufacturers of paper products, including paper plates, cups, bowls and bags, is looking for an experienced sr. paper buyer in our Corporate Office in Bloomfield Hills, MI.
This position will be responsible for the procurement of a variety of paper including Kraft, Bleached Kraft, Wet Strength Kraft, various raw materials, and other goods and services. The Sr. Buyer must ensure that all operational needs of the company are met, while at the same time, minimizing cost as effectively as possible.
Responsibilities
Satisfy consumption requirements of AJM manufacturing facilities
Establish and maintain relationships with Mill Groups
Work inter-departmentally to plan & forecast expected consumption
Monitor inventory levels/needs and periodically update and modify them as required
Provide oversight for delivery of raw material to plants in a timely manner
Hold mill groups accountable to quality standards of AJM
Resolve defective goods received by manufacturing facilities with internal accounting teams and mill groups
Review requisitions and specifications for accuracy and, if required, modify before processing into a final purchase order. Must ensure that the requisite approval has been obtained
Determine method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
Prepare bid requests and solicit competitive bids, when necessary, and be able to provide informed analysis of all received bid proposals in order to make the proper purchasing recommendation
Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule. Effectively negotiate with vendor to establish the most favorable terms and conditions possible.
Stay current in marketplace trends for relevant commodities and services be able to effectively communicate that information with appropriate staff.
Seek opportunities to improve purchasing function and wider department
Complete all other duties the Supervisor deems necessary
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and two to four years of procurement experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possess working knowledge of personal computers and various software programs.
Procurement experience in manufacturing and maintenance repair operation is extremely helpful.
Have a good attention to detail and be able to effectively manage multiple projects.
Possess strong communication skills and be able to communicate with a wide-range of individuals.
Possess excellent negotiation skills.
