Job Description

Responsible for directing the work of Medical Technicians, Medical Scientists and other assigned staff to assure proper functioning of the Clinical Laboratory. Establishes and maintains a system where work and test results are checked for accuracy and timeliness. Maintains supplies, monitors cost, monitors quality. Performs a variety of tests and procedures. Establishes and maintains a system for routine and preventive maintenance on equipment and troubleshoots problems. Works under general direction of the Director of Laboratory Operations.

Qualifies as a General Supervisor under CLIA-88 by any of the following:

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least one year experience with high complexity testing, or




• Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program with at least two years experience with high complexity testing, or




• Or Previously qualified or could have qualified as a general supervisor prior to 2/29/92 under 42 CFR 493.1427 (3/14/90)




• Three years' experience as a Medical Scientist. Specialized training in one or more areas of the clinical lab preferred




• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required interacting with other hospital personnel




• Strong organizational skills required organizing and coordinating the variety of staff and the duties they perform




• Writing skills and computer aptitude required documenting test results and prepare reports of daily work completed




• Must be able to read and speak the English language




• Must have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds




• Must be able to stand for long periods




• Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays
