Applications Engineer Job Summary

This individual will develop cost estimates and technical responses relating to the manufacturing of coated optical components. The person in this position is the central hub for the information which supports the formal quotations that are sent to the customer. He or she will work closely with technical representatives from areas which might affect the product cost to collect the necessary technical and costing details. This role interacts with Sales Personnel and the Product Line Manager to support business development, pricing activities, and customer technical support.

Responsibilities :

• Prepare formal quotations to custom product specifications, that are the basis for accepting customer orders. Prepare the details to allow a smooth transition into product planning and manufacturing.
• Work with a cross-functional team to gather technical responses and cost inputs.
• Work with account managers, customers, and Viavi engineering and manufacturing to respond to customer's product requirements.
• Work closely with Customer Service Personnel to ensure delivery of formal quotation to the customer, striving to meet the customer's RFQ deadline.
• Review and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Generate quotation requests for sub-tier suppliers.
• Review customer quality requirements.
• Participate in development of new business opportunities.
• Responsible for leading order planning meetings to hand off projects to manufacturing.
• Work with databases used to support quotation and order activities.
• Support the Quality System and process improvement.
• Provide backup quote support for colleagues when required.
• Work to standards developed by the team and the organization.
• Look for opportunities and take action to improve quotation process.

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business and/or equivalent technical experience in a manufacturing environment
• Prefer a minimum of 5 years' experience in an engineering role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of optical coatings, optics manufacturing, or optics specifications is desirable.
• Knowledge of military and automotive quality standards is desirable.
• Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel is required
• Knowledge of the use of databases within Oracle or ERP system
