Job Overview: Develop vehicle-level solutions for drive and motion systems for off-highway customers' machines, to create new opportunities and maintain existing business.
Work with customers to define system requirements and with Dana product specialists to select and define the system solution based on Dana portfolio: driveline systems (transmissions, torque converters, axles, wheel/track drives, and driveshafts); motion systems (winches, hydraulic pumps & motors, gearboxes); electric motors and inverters; software and controls.
Part of the global Customer Solution Engineering team, regionally supporting all Off-Highway customers in the Mining, Material Handling, Construction, Forestry, Agricultural and Specialty Equipment market segments.
Essential Duties: Technical contact for the customer in order to provide them with timely & correct technical information on the various DANA off-highway components
Primary, single-point technical contact, in conjunction with Sales, with key assigned off-highway customers
Coordinate, maintain, and close customer specific open issue lists (OISR)
Professional & timely responses to customer requests
Requirements identification, synthesis, and management for customer projects
Provide customers technical product assistance
Present Dana technologies from a technical standpoint, and be aware of the latest developments in the drive, motion, and electrification area
Application Analysis
Identify customer system requirements and define subsystems and components requirements
Conduct analysis of machine applications (typically using application software) & define solution proposal
Work with customers in collecting technical details and experimental data (e.g. driving cycles) to support Dana engineering teams
Work with product specialists to identify suitable solutions responding to requirements; this includes interfacing with all Dana divisions (driveline, motion/hydraulics, motors, mechatronics, etc.), and external suppliers
Document with technical presentation, charts, etc.; present solutions and trade-offs to customers
Estimate and provide development costs for new applications for Sales to utilize for quotations
Program Management Stage Gate
Engineering lead role for customer specific projects
Support PE (Product Engineering) lead in NPD (new product development) with technical customer communications (requirements, update presentations, etc.)
New Product Development
Communicate customer/market needs for future products to PE & PP (Product Planning)
Propose new system solutions to improve efficiency or cost of driveline or motion systems
Cost Optimization
Obtain customer approvals (via CARs) and implementation of technically verified & valid VAVE ideas
Engage in potential VAVE idea generation activities
Warranty Management
Engage in regular reviews of PSS (Product Service & Support) warranty data for understanding/awareness and possible support
Review customer vehicle checkouts requests to determine if needed for new application
Competitive Benchmarking
Engage in and support reverse engineering / competitive product benchmarking activities
Responsible to understand customer use of competitive product and competitor product presence
Actively participate in training opportunities to further develop knowledge and skills
Look for opportunities to enhance technical abilities or those of team members
Provide technical assistance in area of expertise to other global AEs
Strive to improve efficiency and productivity by finding ways/methods to work smarter/faster
Support fellow AEs in requests for any type of assistance
Support new product introduction and troubleshooting field issues
Coordinate with the PP and PE functions to determine approval for new, non-standard, product or feature developments
Coordinate and train other regional AEs in the specific product and vehicle expertise, increasing the overall group technical skills/competences
Support to give internal / external customers quick and correct assistance with problems and questions to provide adequate solutions to their issues and concerns. Indirect support (e.g. training) is also among the tasks.
Supporting OEMs
Provide training to OEMs, sales and service people
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (BSEE, BSME, MSAgE), or equivalent
2 years of diversified experience in design, development engineering, or applications engineering as related to the off-highway, drivetrain/powertrain, or related mechanical industry.
Knowledge of Off-Highway market & the related applications, standards & regulations
Experience with Matlab/Simulink preferred.
Experience with CAN, software, and electrification preferred.
Strong communication skills, including customer presentations, project review meetings and status reports
Able to work effectively in a cross-functional environment, having excellent interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills capable of handling multiple priorities under pressing deadlines
Ability to travel (approximately 20%) to customers, Dana plants, other divisions, suppliers, etc.
