Description

The Field Human Resources Manager for Kankakee and St. Charles plays a critical role supporting multiple site leaders, supervisors and employees at Sun Chemical's Kankakee and St. Charles sites. This role will be the primary HR contact for the sites. The position is supported by an HR Assistant. The Field HR Manager is responsible for leading employee and labor relations for union and non-union sites.

The Field Human Resource Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, leading employee and labor relations, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices for the geography covered.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Partners with multiple site leadership teams to understand and execute the organizations human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.

  • Provides support and guidance to Jr HR resource(s), management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.

  • Working with the Global Talent Management CoE, manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.

  • Works with the Total Rewards CoE to analyze trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.

  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.

  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. This includes managing the Affirmative Action Plan for the sites or geography.

  • Manages day to day labor relations issues (Grievance Process, Job Bidding...)

  • Actively participates in contract negotiations - pre-work, creating language and economic proposals, proofing and distribution of CBA.

  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Experience with HRIS - SuccessFactors, Workday, Oracle, iCIMS.

  • Experience working in Manufacturing environment.

  • Experience supporting multiple sites.

  • Experience in problem solving and continuous improvement.

  • Experience in labor relations.

Preferred Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is required, Master's degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of five years of human resource management experience.

  • Advanced HR certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP).

  • Experience with HRIS - SuccessFactors, or similar Global HRIS platforms and Applicant Tracking Systems such as iCIMS.

  • Experience supporting multiple sites.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Proficiency with SAP SuccessFactors is preferred; proficiency with WorkForce Software is preferred, but experience with any automated time and absence platform is ideal.

Travel Requirement:

  • 20-40% travel expected

Position Type/Shift:


  • Full-Time, Exempt

  • First (1st) Shift: M-F and additional days as needed

  • Location: St. Charles, IL or Kankakee, IL
